General sourcing original stereo?

thank you very much!

stereo- as in the stereo unit?
I got one with a cassette which I'm not sure if works ( the cassette part I mean as I don't have one to try out with). Was about to throw it away as I find cheap chinese replacement unit was much better and provided tons of more features than the ancient original stereo unit.

yes I am after the original factory fitted cassette / radio, either Grundig or Clarion item. I want to return the car to fiat specification.
the facebook item is possibly already sold so is yours available, for how much, and would you post to uk?

^ hi, is that really the case - I was not aware of that. when swapped previous units, the radios themselves are coded and, if activated, the codes requires entering into the unit.

is this some fiendish technology fiat wove into the barchetta?

The thing is.. I'm in UK at the moment and the car is not, If you remind me in 3months you can have it for the postage cost as I was going to throw it away anyway.
At least my unit wasn't coded.

if any one else is looking for an original unit I have one. The car was imported with 21Ks,on the clock, and had the original radio in it. The previous owner obviously had a high powered stereo installed because of the heavy copper wiring under the hood and the I could tell the speakers had been changed. The radio was just sitting in its receptacle but not powered up, just sitting there filling the hole. Its a Clarion unit, looks to be in mint condition. Cant use it over here but if you happen to be in the Toronto area I have it.The car was built June,97.

I've left the original radio in mine even though it's cr*p. It just looks so right in the dash.

Never used the modern radio installed by the previous owner, I just don't like it. It connects to the mobile phone, wonders off station, bright flashing lights etc. Having a ugly gap left by the detachable front I've decided to replace with the old original unit for next year. Or continue listen to the new stainless exhaust I had fitted this summer.

exactly right guys, I've just had my - sorry, the wifes Christmas present :) - barchetta delivered and the first job I've done is to remove the Kenwood modern unit, it just doesn't fit with the car at all.
car bought unseen - seems alright really, couple of niggles but they'll be sorted soon I am sure. i'm being picky its a used car but one I want to get as good and as original as possible!
- stereo (as above!)
- alloys kerbed
- split in seat
- sill covers damaged (heels?)
- blemish on paint at front.
- twin pipe exhaust looks in poor condition, certainly on the exit pipes anyway

anyway, I digress, new owner thread to follow I think...

Yeah same here. Nothing fits better in the interior than the original. After all I only listen to the radio when the car is in garage )

But I have another problem, over time the display of the radio started losing symbols. Tried to fix it by cleaning LCD contacts and the conductive rubber, but it only made things worse  now I have a blind original radio which still looks better than any possible replacement.

I like your thinking. I was just wondering whether I can get away with buying my wife a set of hydraulic car ramps for Xmas (well, she is an engineer). A bit like that time when Homer Simpson gave Marge a bowling ball with his name inscribed on it for her birthday...
