I'm hoping to draw out those DIY members who have successfully replaced their roofs. I've realised that there are two webbing type elastic straps, at the window sides, pop riveted at a least one end, which are intended to prevent the frame acting as a pair of scissors and cutting the fabric when folded down. Overtime, the elastic rubber gives up and the straps become baggy and therefore no longer effective. Do new mohair roofs come with these two straps (new and elastic)? Second question: There are two small diameter cables which, on mine, disappear into the tubular steel frame - an explanation of the purpose of these would help and, again, do they come with a new mohair roof? Thanks.

Hi, been awhile since I replaced mine, can't really remember the function of the elastic part. However I think I must have cut it off as I can see the remaining part of the elastic on the webbing that interlinks the metal roof bars. So my answer to the elastic question is it doesn't come with the replacement roof, not with mine anyway, could be different with your supplier.
Regarding the wire cables, they help pull the roof material around the side windows, to help give it shape and to stop the roof sides from lifting at speed. Mine were corroded so replaced with bike brake cable.
Hope this helps

Thanks very much to both Dave-M and stu4art. Much appreciate your help!
I imagine I'll learn more when I get brave enough to start the job:)
