Hi,
Has anyone replaced their cams and hydraulic tappets? Mine sound rough and feel rattly when touching the cam cover with engine running. Can they be changed without removing the head? The variator sounds okay through the rev range. I am interested in what is involved in replacing them and have searched the forum without much luck.

The cam shafts can certainly be changed without head removal.

I also think that once the cams are moved the hydraulic tappets will be easily removed and replaced.

This is something I've not personally done but logically it seems that once the cams are removed the hydraulic tappets will just come on out behind.

I defer / refer to more experienced bods here:

Have you actually measured or inspected your camshaft. I did think that my cam or followers were worn, but I had my cam belt checked, it was one tooth out on the exhaust. Also the belt was not the correct tension.
All is fine now no tapping noise. So I think worth checking before going to the expense of replacement cams.

I have been told that the 2.0 ltr cams from the alfa twim cam also fit the B and give a 5bhp increase. I have purchased mine and awaiting Dave( Mr Fixit) for when I complete my new head modifications to confirm this but believe someone else has carried this procedure out in the past.
