The first undisguised pics of the new 124 Spider have appeared on the net.

I really, really, really wanted to like this, but I'm afraid it's not doing it for me. It's too fussy at both front and back, and it lacks the flowing lines and the neat, elegant simplicity of the B - and the Corvette-like profile of the front wings and rear 3/4 panels doesn't really come off. If you're aiming to produce a sharp-edged design, be consistent throughout.

I thought that was little more than a re badged MX-5?

More than just a rebadge. They share the same underpinnings (engines apart), but the bodywork is completely different.

In the top picture the rear looks like it's been shunted it's so squared off.

I think I could tolerate the front end.

I don't really like the new facelift to the MX5 either,I prefered it when it was

a Lotus Elan lookalike....

It's not going to happen. All Alfas have to be built in Italy, apparently. So we get the 124 Spider instead.

Not keen on this. Back is too MX5, side is like the early Mercedes SLK and front corner has hints of Ford saloon! Its a Frankenstein!
