Hi to all, I am a new member here, have enjoyed reading your forum and found it a source of information. Now asking for a little more help. Living in Spain, Spanish drivers do not care how they park and at times very inconsiderate. ( I apologise to any Spanish members ) having parked my car had a larger car !!!hit the near side of the front Bumper, not only cracking it but pulling of some of the fastenings. before I start to repair looking for advice on how to remove and restore the bumper and what is needed in any tool wise !! Your help and guidance on this would be helpful also if any members in the Costa del Sol area like to make contact and share info etc would be nice

Welcome, I'm new to all this so can't offer much advice but there is a version of the manual somewhere on this site that gives instructions on bumper removal.
I can try to send you a copy if you like.

Hi

I have a '99 B and have had the front bumper off recently.

Firstly, there is a screw at each lower trailing edge of the bumper holding the plastic arch liner to it. These come out first.

Then basically, the bumper has two metal plates, which locate on the outer sides of the front chassis legs. These plates are held by two bolts each side, accessed from under the car. I took the rear two out and just loosened the front two. There is also a "slider" on each side of the bumper where the sides of the bumper meet the wings, these are held by a bolt each side which is provided for adjustment, but I found it easier to locate the bumper with them loosened - I was on my own though. You really need another person to help.

You then pull it forward and off the car, but just before its right off remember to disconnect the front fogs and indicators.

And thats it. I found the hardest part was getting the arch liner to sit back behind the bumper return flange (front of wheel area). You can float the position of the plates around to get the bumper aligned right before tightening the bolts. Oh and don't forget the fogs and indicators, before you bolt it up tight.

Hope that helps
John

I also live in Spain, and agree they don't give a flying f when they park, I put colour coded bumper protectors on mine, wont stop a heavy bang but helps with the parking scratches
