Hi. I'm a newbie to the forum, and wondered if there are any experts out there on the various model types. Particularly as defined in Europe!

I've just bought a Barchetta in the Netherlands, which I'm taking to France.

The (Dutch) seller says it's just a "Barchetta 1.8"
Also, there is a reference to a type SB1AA 01
It does have the cross-stitched leather interior.

Fiat France say it is a Barchetta Naxos MPI 16V

My French insurance agent says that isn't a valid description (!). He says there are 5 possible French descriptions:
1.8 16V
1.8 16V Pack
1.8 16V Edition Limitee
1.8 16V Spider Europa
1.8 16V Consacrazione

Anyone got any idea how these various models compare and line up?

Many thanks in advance.

Mine was imported from Germany and is black with red hood and red leather with cross stitch and on the face of it is a Riviera model but it is in fact an LE which was produced on mainland euope only. I guess yours is the same.

Fiat France came back to me to state that it is a Barchetta Naxos MPI 16V

Anyone have any idea what MPI means?

Multipoint injection
Multiport fuel injection injects fuel into the intake ports just upstream of each cylinder's intake valve, rather than at a central point within an intake manifold. MPFI (or just MPI) systems can be sequential, in which injection is timed to coincide with each cylinder's intake stroke; batched, in which fuel is injected to the cylinders in groups, without precise synchronization to any particular cylinder's intake stroke; or simultaneous, in which fuel is injected at the same time to all the cylinders. The intake is only slightly wet, and typical fuel pressure runs between 40-60 psi.
Many modern EFI systems utilize sequential MPFI; however, in newer gasoline engines, direct injection systems are beginning to replace sequential ones.
its what Google says about fiat engines. Its beyond me and my spanner skills

Hi Jon,

If your B is a Naxos, it should have silver door mirrors and a silver front spoiler.
However, you mention your car has cross stitched leather. I don't think this was available for the Naxos.
Could it be that yours is perhaps a Riviera or Milano? AFAIK these two were the only ones with cross stitched leather and the newer engine version (183SB1AA).

If you put the last 5 digits of your car's VIN into the ePER spare parts catalogue (which can be found on the blue bar with all the links at the top of the fiatforum web page) it should tell you what model your B is.

I don't know much about the various models listed by your insurance agent - I would guess that 1.8 16V covers most barchettas, 1.8 16V Edition Limitee would be the (original) Limited Edition version from 1998 as well as the "Limited Edition 99 (LE99)" model (which looked identical to the Riviera from 2000). The "Consacrazione" seems to have been a very limited edition (75 cars) exclusively for the French market in 2005, to celebrate 10 years of the Barchetta. The press blurb I found somewhere (when I googled it) says they were the last cars to leave the production line. I have never heard of them before. I don't know anything about the "Pack" or "Spider Europa" models.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Giorgio

Isn't there a definitive description of various Barchetta models against a VIN number?
browsing (don't know were) I found
xxxxxxxxxx Vin number with engine number xxxxxxxx built 4/97 ricambi 27553 MVS 183.829.0 =CF2-V1 Basic equipment 199= black cloth
motor character's 183A1000=M1 version 1835A=V1=base

which does equate to my B
