Hi

I would like to get the radio in my B to work – I think it is the original one, with cassette player. When I turn it on, it shows what I think is meant to be SAFE. A previous owner has written a four digit radio code in the owner's handbook, but as it has a couple of zeros in it, it obviously can't be inputted by pressing buttons X amount of times till you get to the right number...

I assume that there is another way of entering the code, or else there is something else I need to key in. I have what looks like a full history of the car, including all the keys and cards with mechanical and electronic code numbers on, but no clues about making the radio work.

Googling for answers has just left me more confused!

If anyone has any bright ideas, I would be very grateful. Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi Fleckie have to admit I haven't had this problem or the need to use a code. But found this on a German Forum. Hope it works for you..
Use the first four station buttons to enter the 4 digit code
ie 1243
perss button 1 1x
perss button 2 2x
perss button 3 4x
perss button 4 3x
then confirm with button 5
Just spotted a similar one that goes
Switch Radio On - Display Shows
" SAFE " And Then Shows " 1 - - - "
Press preset " 1 " repeatedly for 1st Digit
Press preset " 2 " repeatedly for 2nd Digit
Press preset " 3 " repeatedly for 3rd Digit
Press preset " 4 " repeatedly for 4th Digit
If the correct code number is now shown
Press And Hold " LOUD/EXPERT " To Enter

But no idea about 0s wonder if that really is the right code?

Thanks for the reply - but I don't see how it would work with zeros in the code. Maybe you are right and the code I have found written in the handbook isn't really the code... Still confused!

Hi Fleckie
The way most radios work with the code is if you want a '0' you keep pressing the button on past '9' and the next digit is usually '0'. Have you tried?
Good luck

No: I will give that a shot - many thanks!

Many thanks – I have tried that, and in combination with pressing some random buttons before and after, I have now got the radio working! Brilliant :)
