Hi
I am changing the timing belt and water pump on my B at the moment. I'm also in the middle of fitting the variator repair kit, a spring and plastic washer.

Now, I've looked around the web for suggestions and guidance on doing this and I have had it all assembled on the cam ready to go, or so I thought. Looking at a particular post ( I think if you search "alfa variator repair kit" its one of the top listings), the guy states the two pistons in the variator have to go in in such a way that there is a small 2mm ish gap between them.

My question is, has anyone here done their own?

If its assembled as I had it with the pistons touching, it does seem to have about 10 degrees of available camshaft movement which would give about 20 degrees from the crankshafts perspective, so seems about right for spec.

Any ideas or feedback anyone?

Cheers
John
