Hi,
I have checked my speedo against my GPS on a level road and it reads 8km/hr slower consistantly over most of the normal speed range. so to ensure I don't exceed the speed limit I have to drive for instance at 42km/hr to be at 50km/hr and 122km/hr to remain at the motorway 130km/hr limit (French speed limits). Most other vehicles I have owned have registered a speed 5 km/hr faster which is safer for speed trap approaches etc, hope this makes sense. What is your experience?

Also my Km recorder and trip meter has stopped temporarily a couple of times but most of the time works as it should. I have read the speedo repair guide but although it says see pics there are none! I intend to remove it during the winter and check for cracks in the solder joints. Any thoughts?
Cheers

Steve, if your drive at an (speedo) indicated 50kph and the gps shows over 50 and the same at 110 (saves going on the autoroute) then you _might_ have a problem depending on gps make and position in the car, trees, sunlight etc. etc.
If however you drive at an (speedo) indicated 50 and the gps reads lower, then you are safe(ish) (caveat emptor and all that jazz).
We have a Peugeot 807, a Citroen Evasion and the 'B' and in all three the speedo reads higher than the speed indicated by the gps plus of course other French drivers speedos always read much lower than ours, which is why when I drive at an indicated 90kph I am forever being overtaken, especially in a 50 zone .

Wondering if someone has had the needle off the speedo and put it back in the wrong place...?

Mine reads a steady 2mph higher than the GPS indication all the way from 20mph to 120mph (as verified on the Isle of Man, where that ain't illegal... :) )

Thanks, interesting. Most French Drivers like the rear of both my cars but not all want to overtake. Strange, seems a few want to just follow and not think about driving just text etc.

The barchetta speedo is accurate, so I would guess your tires might be bigger than standard size?
But if the error is constant, always 8km then the speedo needle really might be in a wrong position.

Hi, yes I have standard wheels 195/55/15 and needle is on the 'stop at rest. Maybe relocating the Face to calibrate the needle to the speed is a shortcut.
