Hi All
Just thought I would share one of my recent experiences with exhausts on my Barchetta.
I incorporated the services of an online Stainless steel exhaust manufacturer to make my custom exhaust.
My aim was to keep the downpipe and the CAT as it was still in good condition, and replace everything else after it using stainless steel.
Like many manufacturers/garages, they wanted the car so they could tailor the exhaust in situ. Of course this was impossible in my case as it was a non-taxed, non MOT'd and not road worthy at the time. So I thought how hard could it be to devise a custom exhaust from readily available parts. Anyway, I removed the old exhaust and after a few measurements of lengths and angles etc I discussed my requirements with the manufacturer, made a few sketches and sent to them via email.
You can see my results in the attached picture.
They quickly provided me with the parts I ordered and I proceeded to mount them. I must stress that I had access to a workshop to be able to fabricate my own brackets and methods to hold the exhaust in place. I appreciate that not all people can do this. However if you can, with a bit of out of box thinking you can utilise existing anchor points under the car to do this job.

The result is an exhaust that makes quite a loud noise. Not a Raspy rally type noise but definitely a worthy boy racers type noise. :slayer:
I may have to sell it due to unhappy neighbours though

I'm happy for any feedback or questions.

Hi I have a stainless DTR exhaust which I've just had the flexi replaced as it was collapsed and blowing,
Yes I now sound like a boy racer too:( at certain rev range.the raspy sound you are after is to do with the air intake I believe?
Ciao

Designing your own stainless system is quite impresive. When I got mine made I asked that it make a bit of noise without sounding like a boy racer. My wife can recognise the noise of my car and knows when I am coming up the street - so maybe its louder than I think.

Superb ! And just what I am looking for.

Pray tell, how much did the manufacturer charge for such a piece of work.

Has anyone got any recommendation where an "off the shelf" item could be made/bought ?

Recently quoted (here in Spain) 370 Euros for the "standard Fiat" back box section (supplied, fitted, inc VAT). I've seen that Barchetta Parts want 195 Euros for the same part (not fitted).

Since I am about to spend.... I wouldn't mind more "bang for my buck".

Hi I have a power flow exhaust that was made up on the car, took them about 4 hours to complete. Very happy with the fit and the sound. As you say the original / aftermarket exhausts for the Barchetta are expensive, so opting for a made up exhaust is a good move. Not sure if powerflow have any fitters in Spain, best contact them for info.

We have a "Supersprint" on ours. It was on the car when we got it and it does make a nice noise. The paperwork shows it is EEC homologated for the Barchetta and Punto HGT and is part no. E3-I 53001 81013. I can't find anything in the file to suggest price or when it was done.
We were following friends in their M***a M*5 (sorry about the use of bad language) from Ronda to San Pablo de Buceite and they could hear us and they were a couple of corners ahead, so it is obviously suitable for Spain

OUCH! I've just checked their website and seen the prices

Hmm, perhaps not.

Just checked the price of mine, £520 inc tax, full stainless from the cat also replaced the flex coupling. Done in 2011.
Not cheep but to replace just the back box for std exhaust are also expensive, I think I would have been replacing the std exhaust again next year, had I opted for std replacement.
Depends on how long you want to keep the car. The stainless option does sound good.

Just for your information, each silencer cost around £30 each from eBay and the interconnecting pipe cost around £20 from the same supplier who made the piece from my own dimensions I gave them. Good quality u claps also purchased. The rest was my own labour and some self made fixings.
As you can see, the cost can be greatly reduced if you do it yourself. I appreciate not all people can.

I have been asked to provide more details to get your own ones made. See picture attached.(y)
As I said previously, this attached straight onto the CAT....onwards.
The company was only too happy to provide me with the ends that I wanted (male - female etc)
