General Land Marque Barchetta

General Land Marque Barchetta

I have a crank sensor from a Cinquecento / Punto 1.2 if it's compatible, happy to donate to the cause if you want to try it.

Thanks. I think that sensor will be compatible with the engine in the Y10 :D but it is the one for the Barchetta that isn't working which is shared with other 1.8 Fiat and Alfa engines.

The garage has installed a new one in the Barchetta that is the same length as one that came out but still nothing.

A daft one, but if it has the right crank sensor but isn't picking up the points on the flywheel, does it have the right flywheel?

It should be the right flywheel as they only put a new clutch on and the sensor that they have taken out is the same length as the one that came out.

My gut feel is that it might be an issue with the ECU but we will see

Bring out the dancing girls, the engine is running :D

Only got a text from the garage so don't know anymore than that at the moment. Taking the Y10 in for it's mot tomorrow so will get to see what the Barchetta sounds like. Might even take some photos.

Hopefully on the home straight now.

Thanks for all the help and support so far!

Cheers

Dave

That's great news Dave, To think I was also bidding on this B so good to hear you have her running.

More Pictures for sure.. :)

Do you know if they have used the piggy back ECU or the standard.

Id be interested in the stand alone unit if you haven't used it.

Not sure about the piggy back ECU at the moment. It was causing a few issues last week but will find out tomorrow what the end fix was.

The plan is to get all the electrical bits and bobs reinstated but only if they actually work. So that includes the piggy back ECU and the launch control.

The main thing is that it is a massive step in the right direction to get the engine running. And having given the rest of the car the once over, I am not expecting all that much structurally or mechanically for the MOT. Famous last words ;)

:D about covers it

Went out to drop the Y10 off this morning and actually sat in the Barchetta! The old girl fired up with the first turn of the key. Sounds really good and the Supersprint exhaust has a really nice note.

The piggyback ECU is in and working as is the traction/ launch control.

It is going for its MOT at some point today so will get an update later.

As promised here are some pics of the old girl. The paint is as flat as a pancake and there are quite a few areas that will need repainting. Might need some advice (KC3 ;) ) on how to bring it back to life.

WEY HEY!! :D you must be pleased...

That's Great news!

And yes red paint tend to oxidize/fade much faster than any other colors, and as long as the clear has not been compromised (ie cracked) you can get some polishing compound and finishing polish on her and bring the paint back up to a nice shine finishing up with a good quality wax or sealant afterwards to keep her looking that way for the following few months.

When your ready i,ll can help some more..

Best of luck with the MOT. Paint doesn't look that bad in the photos.

Thanks

The photos make the paint look a lot better than it actually is. It is very pink

The compound and polish that I use (G3 stuff from Halfords) has worked really well on the Y10's red paint so hopefully will work its magic on the B.

Unfortunately I don't think it will be much good for taking out dents.

No news on the MOT yet....

G3 should be OK, Do you have a machine polisher or are you just using your hands?
Where are the dents. most of the B panels are accessible from behind.

I do have a machine polisher but will start with my hands first and see how it goes.

The two main areas for dents are the drivers side rear quarter panel and the boot where the Fiat badge should be. Other than that it looks ok.

On the MOT front, it failed but only on relatively minor things like headlight alignment and wiper blades plus the things I knew about (welding on the sill and a brake pipe). Oh and surprise surprise it failed on emissions :bang: It is not running a cat but I am hoping a new lambda sensor will do the trick. If not

Dave, If you remove the rear light clusters which are held on by two 10mm nuts just behind the black plastic protector, then this will give you access to the rear dent , if the paint is not creased then the dent could be pushed out.

Although I have a small dent puller that is a DIY unit that i bought but works great. Its a sucker/plunger type that you hold around the dent, squeeze the handles together that locks the plunger on and then pull. this is would work well around that big dent in the rear. smaller dents are more difficult but if the area can be got to then these can be slowly pushed/needed out too.

Sometimes, If i,m detailing a vehicle that has a few small dents/ bumps, I,ll have a guy come out to my workshop who's job is to remove's all sorts of dents, bumps and hailstone nicks and charges 30euro a panel.
There are these spray-less dent removal company's in the UK too but worth a go yourself.

Looking forward to getting the Barchetta home, hopefully tomorrow, so I can start making it look as good as it sounds.

Unfortunately the weather forecast is not great for the next couple of days but who cares!
