Now this may seem a silly question, but, we have a seized left rear caliper which has led to the rusting of the disc. I need to replace said disc, (I'm not going down the skimming route) and having been quoted over 1000 euros to replace both rear discs, calipers and pads  I am looking to getting the parts myself for around a quarter of that and paying to get them fitted. I believe the equipment in place is the original so does it matter (for safetys sake only) what marque I replace them with? i.e Bendix, Ferodo, TRW etc. The flexible hoses are in good nick but I am aware I may need to change them too. I'm not bothered about upping performance or increasing disc size or caliper pistons, just getting working rear brakes and stopping that damned annoying screech.
Any advice gratefully received.

I put new discs and pads on my car last year. An easy enough job which takes about an hour a wheel. I put a brief guide in the guide section. If the caliper is seized, you will need to strip it, clean it and rebuild it. Doing this is fairly straight forward but you will need a caliper repair kit and I dont know where you will this. How old is your car? I might have a spare pair of rear calipers but I would need to find them and check them out.

Steve, thanks for that. Having had a good look at the calipers I think I'm going to replace them with new. By the time I (or Mr Meka Nick) have fiddled and phartarsed about with a kit I might as well. I only wondered if there would be a problem if I put a different make on. I don't see that it should matter, but a local garageist said it depended what he took off, what he put on. i.e replace Mintex with Mintex, Ferodo with...

I see Henk has some bits, so I'll drop him a note.
BTW the car is a '95 chassis 13842
Thanks again, Steve.

I bought Black Edition, only straight grooved disc's for my Alfa GT from Mtec, I use Ferodo DS Performance pads, and I'm very pleased with this combo.
Better than the Brembo Max, that previously was on the car...!
With the current Pound-Euro conversion, it's also rather inexpensive, compare to lot's of other brands....!!
