Bought a nice B last week but to my dismay the odometer & trip wasn't working. Contacted DTR with a view to a replacement unit, but they very kindly walked me through known problems which got it working again at nil cost.

To summarise, there are two known reasons for the odometer not working:-

  1. The trip display wheels can jump off the cogs, especially if the trip is reset while the car is moving. The offending wheel can be pushed back into position with a small screwdriver.
  2. Hairline cracks on solder joints on the circuit board. This was my problem - there were cracks in the solder / pins connecting to the odometer drive motor. Reflow them using a small soldering iron.
Obviously you need to remove the instrument cluster from the car to do any of this. Remove the steering column trim and then the 4 screws holding the instruments in place. The rest is really self evident.

Hope this helps someone else, and again many thanks to DTR for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks Vino - my trip odo cogs have clearly become dislodged from their respective mounts and I am pleased to see from you that it is accessible behind the cluster. - I'll give it a go, thanks!

Vino,
Not wishing to hijack the thread but I need to re-align the cogs in my instrument panel to get the odometer working again. I removed the 2 screws underside of the steering wheel plastic cover but was unable to manoeuvre the two plastic parts apart. Is there a technique to remove this plastic? I thought I would ask before trying again.
Thanks
