Hi All,
The silver spidermobile passed its MOT this week, no problems. The tester turned off my airbag light for me and didn't charge anything! I of course bought him a couple of pints!
The diagnostic computer showed the fault, and I quote, " Left hand side squib" came up. No one knows what a SQUIB is. My view is that it is the firework device in the seatbelt pre-tensioner. What do you think?
The mechanic thought it was the airbag in the seat until I told him the B doesn't have seat airbags. He advised me to remove the connectors under the seats and replace them with good in-line connectors, the type you press together with pliers. Apparently, the slightest voltage drop accross one of those blocks will trigger the airbag light.
Maybe we are geting somewhere with this problem?
Just off now to get my stainless steel Powerflow exhaust made and fited. Will keep you posted.

DTR said mine was due to the connecter for the seat belt pre-tensioners under the seat. The pre-tensioners are on the same circuit as the air bags. Apparently this is a common barchetta fault and they are reinforced on the mk 2 with a cable tie! Are seat bases called squibs...?

A SQUIB is a small firework
A SQUAB is the padded part of a car seat, so in this context I guess squab is the word to use.

by far the most ocmmon airbag code on any fiat from the 90s.

yes, a squib is an explosive. and you're also correct that squibs are used for the seatbelt pretensioners. (y)

he is correct, that is the only long term solution. there should be a yellow sheathed wiring harness under the seat, with a yellow connector. there are 2 wires on it. chop the connector off and replace with something better. i use bullet connectors so the seat can still be removed easily, but its up to you.

IF replacing the connectors or even cleaning them with electrical cleaner ... should I disconnect the battery first ?
