Question Engine Control System Failure (EOBD)

Should I be worried? The good lady wife was out in the B today when said warning light came on. Having read the manual this suggests a fuel feed/ignition system failure. It goes on to state 'contact a Fiat Dealership as soon as possible'.

Light has now gone out and having returned home from London (work necessity) I have been out for a spin but the warning light has not come on again. Seems I have a few options:

1. Take it to the Fiat Dealer - like that is going to happen!!!!!
2. Take it to local Fiat / Alfa dealer - Avanti Autos in Ipswich - top blokes but I cant do this until the weekend.
3. Ignore it as need the car to go to Milton Keynes on Thursday for a go karting session at Daytona.

Car only had mot last week and sailed through (03 plate).

Anyone had this light on before and any consequences of ignoring?

Advice please .....

Re: Engine Control System Failure (EOBD)

Hi Julian, can you give any more details? What were the circumstances when the light came on? How much fuel was in the car? When was it last serviced? If it came on and went off within seconds it is likely a loose sensor but I would hate to be blamed for you being stuck in MK late at night!!

Re: Engine Control System Failure (EOBD)

Lee,

Car was last serviced in Sept 07 - only done >2k miles since.

Light came on today after had been driven approx 30 miles. Only came on after restarting in Tescos carpark - had been sat in the sun (26 degrees) for an hour. Not much fuel in it - would that cause the problem?

Going to fillup tomorrow and go for a longer run to see what happens.....

Sorry about Sunday - July looks good for me plus can save up!

Re: Engine Control System Failure (EOBD)

No problem about Sunday, my lad did not come in the end so your little'un would have been bored! I am going to try an organise a run and lunch again so you can make up by buying me lunch!!

I believe fuel starvation can cause the light to come on but it is usually linked with the emission system. If it has only come on the once and gone off very soon afterwards I would not worry too much (as long as the car is not playing up or feel as if it has lost any power), it could be a simple sensor failure - if it happens again its probably worth getting the ECU read.

Re: Engine Control System Failure (EOBD)

Agreed, if it came on briefly and hasn't been back since ignore it, quite often these warning lights appear never to be seen on again I would put it down to a brief glitch and not worry. But as Lee states if it comes on again repeatedly or stays on get to a dealer.

Mine came on the Panda (1 mth old at the time with about 1000miles on the clock) and thought WTF but turned of the ign and back on again and hasn't been on since, now 4250miles.

Re: Engine Control System Failure (EOBD)

Made it to MK and back (220 miles) - light never came on

Didnt see anymore b's despite looking out for them!

Not such a good performance by me on the track but is very cool. Well worth a visit to race on a track nearly a mile along

Potential for a b meet even if we have to use their karts?
