Deluded drivers of lesser cars

I agree with you totally, Mr Moderator....and as for driving an MX5...its not something I would ever feel the need to boast about...the MX5 is, in my opinion, the ugliest roadster I have ever seen....even worse than the Fiat Barchetta.I think you are being unfair on the MR2, which is surely the ugliest.
Accidently stumbled upon an MG TF forum when searching Barchetta on Google and read the above. Just wanted to share it because I find it hard to believe that any right minded person would really find the B ugly. Personally, I think the MG is pretty horrific and I'm not just saying that in defense.

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

lol

if we're talking looks here (i wont start on the mechanics of an MG TF)
the problem with the MG TF is... it is too high for its size.. and that is what it makes it "feel" all wrong ....
just as it does for any car that is/looks higher then it is wide ... see also AUDI A2

I am sure the MGF owners love the car when the head gasket goes every few years lol.

For me the MGF is not a good or bad car, its just an Rover.

Looks a bit better than standard.

Think my dad has finally given up the idea of an MX5 or Z3. Not sure when he will be buying but seems hooked on the B now. There are stacks of B details printed from Auto Trader etc round his house.

Tell me about it, I used to live with a guy who had a P-reg MGF. In two years it had a variety of ailments, including needing a new catalytic converter, a new ECU and a new top half on the engine! Very pricey . . . .

Which is why, when I decided I wanted a little soft-top, I searched Autotrader for anything small, cheap and two-seater that WASN'T an MGF or an MX5, which turned out to be a great decision

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

I have actually seen owners of other two seaters looking annoyed at my car (or maybe its just me) I think they are just worried about being out-shone when the B's about.

I just think that referring to the Barchetta as ugly is weird.

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

I wish Fiat made an Abarth Barchetta model as it would have been great with an extra 30 BHP and some nice little mods.

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

What a strange thing to say, if you want to have a pop at the b then you could comment on build quality, ride hight or being a left hooker but I have NEVER heard anyone (of sane mind) call it ugly! Ferarri wannabe maybe but not ugly!

When I decided on a 2 seater I was initially looking for an S2000 or Boxter S but decided to save my pennies on finance etc (bloody glad I did now!). I started with the Alfa Spider but was put off as my budget was only going to get me an old one plauged with issues, had a nose at the MX-5 but did not like it, looked at a couple of TVR S's but then realised I would need to drive it and not just look at it (although I will have one in the future to get it out of my system), looked at the old Lotus Elan - once the b came onto the radar all of the others were no longer of interest.

The one car that I never considered was an MGF for lots of reasons, mainly build quality (I know, a bit of a pot/kettle black moment!!), looks and poor mechanics! - oh, also did not like the image....

Still each to their own, means there are more b;s out there for the rest of us!

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

There should have been an edition with extra performance not just leather, hood colour etc. Would have been nice but we have an even playing field on which to start with the mods.

I want to see a turbo B in action

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

The thing I hate about the MGF is the parts bin engineering. The clocks and switches make me cringe..I saw them first time around on the Metro back in 1980??.

Got called a 'hairdresser's toyboy' the other day. From a Hyundai Coupe driver. 3L V6 that produces 20hp more than the B. Now there's a horrible car.

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

Calling the b ugly is just a nonsense. Beauty in the eye and all that but come on.....

MGF not a bad looker but would never ever consider one. For me it was always a B - nothing else similar appeals. MGF supposed to be quite good with the VVT engine in it, but not my cup of tea. And the fact its a Rover is enough......still least the F looked better than the horrid facelift TF. 1.6 automatic anyone?
