Have googled it and you are undoubtedly right, I had forgotten.

Hyundai coupe: your design looks poorly done

You do not take my fancy in the least

You have silly body kits and spoilers where proper cars have none

My other halfs brother bought an MGF the other day hes not had it long, his head gasket has gone and hes scraped the engine coolant pipes off the bottom of the car over a speed hump and his girlfriend hit a parked car in it!!Dohhhh!!! Should have bought a B ... I did ... Excellent Italian Thoroughbread lines... with a classic drive.... beautiful ... rather that than a flat cap pipe smoking rover !!!!

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

Yup, you did the best thing - MG's are famous for expensive head gasket repairs (oh, and unless you spend a bit on the suspension that don't handle too well either!!)........

Fitting them is expensive as well due to their location, lots of panel and engine component stripping!

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

I'm not sure why the English always think MGs have an "old mans" image. Everyone I've spoken to in Belgium, France, Germnay etc love the classic look.

The MG-F was known for it's good handeling from what I've read and people I've spoken to. Althought the TF 160 can be a bit harsh.

While it's true the head gaskets can be an issue, it's not too expensive to fix properly and regular checking of the water levels can stop it happening in the first place (they've got a tiny water resevoir).

The Barchetaa has it's variator problem too........

Obviously I love my Barchetta but I appreciate other cars too. I saw some nice looking Mini Marcos's (spelling?) the other day, for example.

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

I am open minded and appreciate all things petrol, not having a pop at the MG's but speaking from first hand experience they don't handle as well as the b and you sit on them not in them!!

The head gaskets are an expensive job due to the position of the engine. Parts are not too expensive (in fact a bit cheaper than the b), but the labour charge is big due to the amount of 'stuff' that needs to be removed in order to service the head gasket.

I guess another thing to keep in mind is that the UK was the home market so there are a lot more on the road here - therefore on a % basis there are probably more going wrong! Their reputation for reliability and build quality is not great....

I personally quite like the look of the early ones, they still retain the heritage 'look' of the 1960's - 1970's MG's but having done my homework when looking for a 2 seater I decided to spend my money on the b..........still, each to their own!

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

I do appreciate pretty much any car and roadster but sometimes it's nice to turn to the MG'ers and say you bought the wrong car harmless banter Though if I was given one I wouldn't keep it.

Re: Deluded drivers of lesser cars

Oops, a bit of Monday morning whinging from me there!

On the other hand I always enjoy talking to people about their cars if they're at all keen on them.

I've heard mixed feedback from MG-TF owners. Most of the ones with the 160 loved it, but they did get the head sorted as a priority.

I got passed by an S2000, the other day, they look nice....... I was flat out in thrid (in fact I had the top down so I didn't hear when I hit the rev limiter) when he passed me.

My brother had an MGB from the 70s which had a Rover V8 bored out to 3.7 or something. In a car that weighed next to nothing it was very very quick!

Mind you, I wouldn't have wanted to own it!!!!
