Re: KC3 Project Silver

Picked mine up off eBay. Pure luck as it was up for sale in the Punto HGT area.

Re: KC3 Project Silver

I managed to pick up the new GSR induction hose today from Peter
(old School) and have fitted it on the B

I have still kept my green filter and is positioned in near enough the same position as before.

Havent had the chance for a real good spin yet. , but i might say there seems to be a little bit better response. Mid range torque is much better but not sure what exactly has made the difference, new exhaust or induction.

Guess both must help.

A rolling road will confirm but so far so good.

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Looking good m8 and loads of $$ spent I bet. You need to paint your engine cover to match the blue of the pipework just to bring it all together.

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Hi! Doc,

Yes, i will need to do something about that and paint the strut brace at the same time.

One thing, re getting a new rad. Do you think i should just get a new OMP or would it be best to have one made, Hence clearance issues of fans and cosmetic reasons too.

Think i will be ordering the supersprint rear silencer too, unless you know of something better.

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Hi m8
I would love to have a rad made as I would have it only on the battery side of the engine bay so that it makes space for an intercooler and turbo later on. The rad would have to be thicker to help cool being that it would then be only half the size of the OEM rad.

An OEM rad is £140 but a one off rad would be more like £250 plus extra samco hoses and fan.

A Supersprint rear silencer would be cool but first would be the sports CAT if I was you.

The GSR kit looks good and fits in well with your samco set.

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Hi KC
Give Europerformance.co.uk a call on 08700347030 as I think you can get one from them m8.

Little info on sports CATs below.

A Sports Cat which will be fully integrated into a large bore down pipe, has only 100-200 cpsi depending on application. Sports cats have an open area of between 75-85%, thus reducing back pressure substantially and increasing flow rates, all very desirable for extracting more performance, especially on turbocharged engines. Emission levels are maintained at legal limits by careful selection of the volume of the metallic substrate. Lamda probe positions remain unchanged from the original equipment.
Sport Hi-flow Sports Cats are made from a special stainless steel containing aluminium (called ‘Fecralloy’). This material was developed in England in the 1970’s specifically to provide resistance to oxidation at very high temperatures.
The material is used as a very thin strip (2 thousandths of an inch) and is coiled together to make a honeycomb structure. Because the metal strip is so thin, the honeycomb has a very low flow-obstruction. To reduce the flow-obstruction even further, the honeycomb is made with 100 or 200 ‘cells’ (i.e. channels) per square inch compared with 400 or 600 per square inch for a standard catalyst.
The result is that about 85% of the total cro ss-section is open. The honeycomb is held together by using a special nickel-based brazing material which is applied in a vacuum. The finished honeycomb is then coated with Aluminium Oxide, some rare earth metals and Platinum and Rhodium. The Platinum and Rhodium are applied at a rate of 25 grams per cubic foot, which compares with between 5 and 10 grams per cubic foot for typical US aftermarket items.

Re: KC3 Project Silver

DTR are now doing a sports cat for the B. Check out the exhausts page on their site.

The shape of the cat housing is more of an issue than the cumbers of cells per square inch. A lot of the so called sports cats aren't really because they flow pretty badly due to poor cat housing design.

Re: KC3 Project Silver

The best shape for a sports CAT is a long thin tube with nothing inside, kind of like a straight through pipe HEHHEHEHEHE

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Supersport do a 'cat-less' front pipe for the b, if you were the dishonest type you could fit one and then just replace your cat for the MOT. We are all far too grown up and honest to do that though, arn't we?
