Re: KC3 Project Silver

Nice work, love the blue hoses and cover

I've got the dual fans, becuz i've got airco, but it will be interesting to see how you get them on

while you're at it, throw away the heatshield, its cracked and WILL rattle
you could try to fix it, but apart from migwelding a few metal strips or glueing tinfoil over the crack i wouldn't see how

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Nice work KC3, the blood on your hands didn't go unnoticed.

Jiggy: The brace looks like mine (haven't got an engine bay picture on me at the mo, might find one in my CDA thread). If that's correct then it fitted fine and I didn't bother drilling the bodywork. Being aluminium it's not as strong, but it is lighter and strong enough for lateral forces. Anyway, lets hope yours does fit after all :-)

Re: KC3 Project Silver

I have the odd fitting chrome strut brace. Had to hammer it in to place but I stuck with it. Bonnet closes okay now - just! I will be spraying the engine cover blue shortly and have started cleaning he engine bay.

Found the picture! It was easy to fit and no hammering needed

Re: KC3 Project Silver

How did you get on with the dual fans KC? Did you get them working OK in the end?

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Fitted the dual fans in today. Not a difficult mod but not without its problems.

Firstly removing the existing fan consists of 4 10mm bolts, two on top and two at the bottom.

One of them was rusty and of course, sheared off on me.

There's a wirring loom that just unplugs so off comes the fan.

The dual fans come with a different loom plug as they have a slow and fast speed, but I cut this off and bi wired both fans so as to kick in together and then used the old loom connector.

Fitting the dual fans is a little more tricky. You will need to undo the top rad hoses as to slide the new fans into place.

It fits as did the orriginal fan but with the addition of three more 10mm bolts.

Refit the top hose, top up water levels and thats it.

I know my heat shield is cracked, has been for a while now, but i would like to replace it with the better, stronger type. Just havent been able to find one.

The fans are simple enough to fit but i do have a minor issue with the fuse blowing on me once. could be a load problem but will look into it again tommorow.
