Re: KC3 Project Silver

I spent the evening over at Red Dot tonight as
Tony had to import a chip from abroad to fit the ECU and it had arrived today.

He has devised a system where the chip can be unpluged from the original Ecu where before the old one was soldered in.

It is a tricky board and can see why many do not do it.

Anyway.! The B went on the rollers again for a test run before a remap.

It showed 142bhp an increase over last time but we did push her over the 7000rpm limit.

The B has the new manifold and induction but the power graph was not as good as last week.

It showed there was to much air and not enough fuel in the mixture, running too lean, 17-18 ratio where as a lesser figure of 14 would be better

After a remap to adjust the fuel mixture the B was still starving for more fuel under load conditions.

It looks like i might not be getting enough pressure from my fuel pump and so
we tried to clamp the return fuel pipe so as to mimick the pressure of the pump and after several attempts the B would still not perform as it should.

The pump would not give the required fuel as to be able to increase the power.

The injectors are good to 173bhp so this would indicate that i may need to place a more powerfull pump or fuel boost like Doc has just purchased so as to be able to get more from the engine.

More tests and investigation into other B's would help.

Sunday 11th will help as we will be able to compare with other B's if the engines run so lean.

We are getting close and just need some more tinkering and maybe a few extra mods so as to gain the extra power.

ROLL ON SUNDAY!!

I'm sure the time you spend will get the results you are looking for or I certainly hope they do.

Hey KC3, you must be happy with at least knowing you are moving in the right direction and knowing what all you have to do.
173 in a B would be sweet

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Nice work m8.

Have to look and see what the stats for the fuel pump are to see if the flow rate is the issue. I think the Coupe has the same kind of design so that might be an upgrade option as well as a fuel boost gauge to keep the fuel PSI stable and correct.

142BHP nice but 180-200 BHP would be my happy target.

Re: KC3 Project Silver

Very helpful info! I actually got a tip last weekend that about 80% of all cars run to lean after fitting a performance air filter. I was recommended a Unichip from a guy who had this on his Alfa 155 1,8 TS wich basically is the same engine. Can't wait to see the result when you get enough fuel!

Good luck!

Re: KC3 Project Silver

I have my nephew comming over from Cyprus tommorrow, He is a very good mechanic who specialises in race building engines and i told him of my fuel problems earlier today.

He says, no worrys! just need to have a scout in the garage for a race fuel pump and boost valve and chuck them in his suit case.

So fingers crossed, i might have the parts and cure for my fueling problems.

Looks like it will be a busy weekend with modding ,getting this fuel pressure up and hope to fit the new oil cooler and catch tank too.

Rollers on sunday will hopefully put loads of on my face

Nice one KC more cool stuff!! Fitting the boost valve will be easy but the fuel pump is a big job.
