We are discussing not your old banger. We are talking about the modern advanced Barchetta.

Sorry, you just asked for it.

I remove the liner from any car when owning it. I do not like the dust mite breeding station under the bonnet. A lot of cars come without them altogether.

And then you really like the music from under the bonnet. Aren't you?

Re: Barchetta meet 11th of May Watford

Sorry Oldschool I am with LRB on this one. It could be a problem on a hot day while stuck in traffic, (M25) I would not like to see the clear coat on the bonnet peel.

The funny thing is I have seen a few B engine bays now and the engine sits a little different in lots of them and its both the new and old style intake and fuel rail engines. Some engines sit higher while others are lower and forward. This shows up the most with things like the strut brace issue that a few people have had. The mounts look the same as far as I can see so I dont get it !?!

Re: Barchetta meet 11th of May Watford

I might just give this a try, more noise is always good and besides if the paint and clear start to lift, gives me an excuse to get the front end re-sprayed, its covered in stone chips, and away i go

Re: Barchetta meet 11th of May Watford

not a prob, and i will do, never had any probs with the seicento or starlet, i know they are smaller engines, but i have had them sitting in traffic in warm weather and the fan blowing and no issues so ill give this a shot too

Think I've got a solution, going to take the lining out and I have an old Renault 19 bonnet scoop I'm going to fit over where the bonnet pipe was making the contact...

Re: Barchetta meet 11th of May Watford

some one told me that the flat fiat paint dont have a clear coat only the metalics, also ive only ever seen paint come off a bonnet when engines have seriuosly over heated and cooling system has exploded.
a good pannel beater will also be able to put a nice bulge in a bonnet that will look a lot better than a bonnet scoop
edit: yeah now i think about it my yellow cinq had clear coat too. may be they was lying

My red one has got a clear coat, I pulled a bit of it off with sellotape once - long sad story.

Re: Barchetta meet 11th of May Watford

The last of the mk2 Sei's did away with the padding/damping on the bonnet (ie my version), and I have double the bhp of a stock Seicento...also unwrapped stainless manifolds under there, so a lot of heat.

No issues with the bonnet or paint, even last year on a 2K miles road trip in 36 degree temps

I know its not a B, but it is a fiat...and i have about 5mm clearance from top of engine to the bonnet. I have even worn away some of the bonnet pain on the underside!

Re: Barchetta meet 11th of May Watford

Well I knew Fiat were getting lazy and cheap towards the end of the run of the barchetta but i didnt think they were this bad. Out i went to remove the padding only to find that they had only half painted the underside of the bonnet and there was random bits of glue stuck to the underside too
