| Re: HID fitting tools Hello, Just a grumpy question from me. I have been recently finding that the headlights on lots of cars are getting brighter and brighter and its got to the point now where it's like some people have full beam on the whole time. Are these HID things the lights that other road users have been using to temporarily blind me? And if they are what's the point (other than trying to blind me?) seriously?

| Rosso Corsa of corsa!!! | Re: HID fitting tools Depends, more and more production cars are shipping with factory fitted HID's, they tend to give out a very clear but bright light. The lights that I find to be more blinding are the after market high intensity bulbs (usually 80/100w), these are not road legal, they are OK for main beam but blinding when on dipped! Also, there is a muppet local to me who has fitted HID's to his Saxo, HID's only work on projector lights - such as the ones fitted to the b! As for the legality of them, well - that one is open for debate! As the b is fitted with projector lights it would be possible for them to be legalised (if you were willing to go through the hassle of having them assessed but a DVLA engineer etc) and proving that they meet the EU standards required for HID's........ Mine flew through the MOT with no issues, I have found that as I drive it every day the HID's have made night it has made it significantly safer (and more comfortable).............. Al, if I get a GV9 in the post I will hunt you down!!

| Re: HID fitting tools remember seeing that letter before on another forum. Strictly speaking the HID's are illegal as the light unit they are fitted in isn't designed for them and doesn't have the washer/self levelling set up. However I asked a couple of guys I know in Sussex Police who reckoned that unless there was something obviously wrong with the lights (colour/adjustment/dazzling) etc then they wouldn't bother to stop you. It can be different if you have an accident and the assessor finds them fitted and states they were a cause of an accident and you didn't declare them to the insurers as a mod.(hard to do as they are technically illegal) You could find a bloody minded insurer (Quinn Direct springs to mind) could refuse the claim. When I fitted mine it did it a different way to the fitting guide on here..mostly because the kit came with a set of flat brackets which the transformers screwed to. These brackets fitted under the L shaped bracket which hold the rear of the headlamp unit. The hard part was fitting the bulb unit in the lamp mounting..by touch..lots of swear words and a few band aids.
