Does anyone know whether an effective (not stainless things) roll bar / hoops are available? I'm pretty sure that OMP did once produce something..

Thanks if you can help..

Dan

Hi Dan,
I m taking that you mean a roll bar that offers safety in case of a roll over..
The ones available for example on ebay are 100% for the looks and offer no safety at all thats for sure.
The thing that we need to have a look at is even if there was a safety roll bar, where would you bolt it on? Is there a spot on the B that could stand the heat? I dont know, but I dont think so...

PS: Racing OMP roll bars will look very funny in the B even if you manage to fit one :D

The simple answer is not to roll it!!!

Seriously though I think that you would be looking at a lot of effort to put a structural roll over protection behind the seats. If you look at the piccies of the racing B's on barchettamondo they have complete roll cages............

Let us know what do you.....?

I'm struggling to find the photos of the race cars.. if it needs a bespoke roll bar, then the costs will probably be too high. I've seen one picture of the OMP piece but nothings listed on their website, I'll send them an email.

I´ve been looking for the same thing but without any success. Talked to a local workshop here in Sweden and they belived it would be possible to make a rollbar, think they wanted something like £4-500 for it.

The rollbar on the racecars are maybe a little to much for road and trackday use.

'ere ya go, it is only really suitable if you are looking to build a race-car................

TBH guy's, I think you are probably better placed in spending money on the suspension (stiffer springs, ARB kit, nylon bushes etc) than spending your hard earned cash on a roll-over kit!!!

I'm thinking of using a Barchetta for hillclimbs and track days.. other improvements would be done / money spent, but just relying on the screen roll bar doesn't really cut it. I guess I've seen too many on track incidents! That said, the full race cage is well over the top for what I'm looking for..

If there's an off the shelf solution, then I'd take it. But it seems that I may have to speak with a couple of specialists to get a grasp on costs.

Dan - I am with you on the safety front, before I had kids I raced Formula FORD's for a couple of years and witnessed more than a few 'oops apocalypse' moments on the track that would have ended in fatalities without r'o's......

My B is currently a daily drive but long term plans are to set her for track days, I had planned on getting down to Goodwood before the end of the year but an impending redundancy has put pay to any unnecessary spend!

I think you may need to look to Germany for someone selling a safety R/O kit, the UK ones are for show. TBH if you roll a B I kinda think that you will be looking at early retirement regardless of R/O (if you get what I mean!!) ;)

Keep us all updated with your progress, I would buy one as part of my longer term plan but would not trust it to sit on the bulkhead, I would want it floor mounted behind the seats!!! (bearing in mind its 130 bhp wrapped in tin-foil).....

Be interested in this. Herself and her accident at very slow speed managed to tip the B over to 60 degrees. The recovery guys reckoned that any faster or any sideways slide, she'd have rolled it.

yes, sitting on bulkheads would be a waste of time. A roll hoop / bar won't stop the windscreen folding down on you, but it may well save your head.. I'll do some more research and post back here if anything comes of it.

Formula Ford - any success? I've marshalled for about 15 years now, so perhaps you provided the entertainment some time?

No real success to shout about but then I never had any decent sponsorship either!!!

It all started with a Brands Hatch day for my 18th and went from there until I was about 24, followed the 'racing school' route and managed to get a few rides but never really attracted enough attention - also didn't have friends in the right places motorsport so found it very difficult to position myself correctly!

I had a couple of memorable moments but nothing too terrible, best was out of the pits at Brands a little too enthusiastically, into the corner a little too fast and wham - into the gravel trap!!

I have a friend on mine who marshals, chap called John Gregory Smith - as everyone tends to know everyone I would put a £5 on you knowing John......

I would love to get back onto the track, I think it may have to wait until the kids are older or I find an alternative source of income................

So, a mere ten years(!) after originally asking the question, has anyone seen a solution for the lack of rollbar issue? The Barchetta is now firmly in my possession, and definitely interested in using it on track. Same concerns still exist though...

Not seen anything recently on here about roll bars. I suspect the discussion hasn't moved on since you last posted on the subject, but hopefully I'm wrong! Good luck with the project.
