A while back I bought Dr O’s green filter and as the weather was pants today (so couldn’t go driving) decided to fit it (my first mistake).

To begin with all went well, not too many rusty bolts but I think that the head is leaking from under the manifold, discovered that the heat shield on the exhaust has had it, found a very rusty battery tray and the rad is not looking too healthy ……the ‘to do’ list just keeps growing!

Step 1 – remove all the FIAT plastic

Step 2 – fit heat reducing exhaust wrap

Step 3 – fit induction filter

While it looks OK in the piccies its a very Heath Robinson fitting (I had to use gaffer tape and a hollowed baked beans tin (honestly)), and here’s where I need the help. Has anyone fitted the Green induction kit for car’s with the Air Flow Meter? If so what does the kit contain?

The issue is that the throttle housing and all induction hoses are 70mm but the AFM is 85mm, this means that I need additional couplers and reducers.

I priced up the elbows and reducers that I need on the net to finish the job and am looking at about £100 of pipes etc – or I could buy the Green kit at £120 (claims to include all of the parts needed to fit it), but I don’t want to buy it if I still need to purchase additional induction pipes etc………

Sorry for the long posting but ANY help and advice is gratefully received………..

So what you need is two reducers 85mm-70mm, one on each side of the AFM ?
Black plastic drain pipe from B&Q works well over the bake bean tin ehhehe ;-) 10/10 for thinking outside the box (y)

You could also make a mount from the front of the air filter to the top of the rad, a bit like I did for my CDA filter.

Happy to give you a hand if you are round my way or at the South B meeting next week (y)

hi, little B,

I bought the green filter as a kit but have switched the ducting that came with it and used the orriginal duct. It allows the filter to drop down lower just under the bat tray. Cooler down there. I think all you need is a small piece of pipe to join airflow meter. and then VROOM VROOM VROOM. !!
you can bolt onto the air flow meter with a metal strap and then onto a braket left once the old air housing is removed . this keeps the air filter in place.

Please dont take this the wrong way guys but dont you think it all looks a bit of a mess under the bonnet?? For the sake of a supposed couple of BHP increase which Im sure you can hardly notice?? I know that Fiat had to produce an intake that would suit all climates in all countries hot and cold and I would agree that all that plastic ducting of Fiats looks a mess but dont you think that a K&N filter in place of the cheap paper filter in the original fiat set-up would be just as effective as the green filter??
Dont get me wrong, I am all for improvements that can be justified. I am just being a little devil's advocate:)

I was thinking that myself while I was up to my eye's in a pile of plastic with a filter that would not fit - however the engine growl on acceleration was worth it ;)

I have to say that bottom end there is no noticeable hike in performance however hard acceleration at 60-90mph was faster (not on a public road - of course)...........

Thanks to everyone for your help an suggestions. I have a couple of issues that I forgot to mention, one is that the original throttle hose from the throttle housing is split so I will need to replace it regardless - I wondered if the Green kit included a replacement pipe.

I have another issue and that is that I am running out of space under the bonnet, currently I think I need another reducer but if I add this it will push the filter over the top of the rad

I really like the idea of KC3's suggestion, just a little worried that if the filter is located that low to the ground it could suck in road water in the winter and choke with dust in the summer, have you had any experienced of this KC3?

I was keen to get this sorted before the B get-together next Sunday (more names please!!! - look for the link and add you name) however may leave it and get your opinions face to face - Doc OP I may take you up on your offer ;)

If anyone could clarify exactly what the Green kit for a B with an Airflow meter includes I would be really grateful.

Thanks again guys and I look forward to meeting some of you next Sunday (y)

Despite my putting a K&N filter on in place of the std filter, I have to agree with you. But the original plastic housing on my car was looking really shabby a couple of the mounting points were broken also a split in the air filter housing convinced me that a K&N would be the best solution both in cost and availability of parts to tidy up the whole air filter area Downside to this is the heat problem.

Please see below.

What engine bay would you have? OEM or mine? :D ;) Working on my engine is so much easier after getting shot of all that plastic over the top intake system crap. Plus how are you going to get the turbo in with all that crap in the way heheh ;) :D :slayer:

Hi little B,

The kit comes with two hoses, 1 from the inlet and another to adjust the angle of filter, also there is a coupler so as to join airflow meter.

it was very easy to fit .

At present, i,m not actualy using these as i have used the original hose.

Still in test mode. so not sure if i,ll switch back. i,ll bring them along on sunday though to show you.

Regards, KC

KC, your a scholar and a gent (y) - I spent another couple of hours this evening trying to try and fabricate a bracket with little success!

I think I may buy the kit but will wait until I see the kit on Sunday........look forward to meeting you!

Moving the filter lower has really changed the exhaust note.

It really sounds nice :D :D only bad thing is that it makes you want to put your foot down to hear the roar.

I have noticed that i seem to be able to take the car upto 7000revs without a problem whereas prior it would cut out before.

Is this normal ?
