Well the sun is out, the roof is down and my barchetta is looking good. Hope you are all enjoying your barchettas as much as I am.

I'm on a fitness drive at the moment and want to buy a mountain bike. However I'm unsure if its possible to attach my bike to the barchetta. Has anyone found a bike rack that will accomodate this? Or does the standard boot rack manage to hold a bike in some way.

All comments and suggestions will be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

I tried with the standard rack and two bikes. It was OK for a short distance but realisticly the bikes overlapped the car and it all looked a bit silly. I also found I couldn't shut the roof :)

I reckon it'd be OK with just one bike, if you could take the front wheel off.

Cheers,

Matt.

PS. Watch the aerial, it's easy to have something hanging over it when your using the rack, then you forget you've done it, turn the radio on and ......

Mad Matt thanks for your reply.

I wasn't sure a standard rack would fit due to the unique design of the boot however you have reassured me.

I'll pick one up and give it a go.

Thanks again

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the standard Fiat luggage rack.

I believe a clip on rack would work too, but I only tried that once, in addition to the luggage rack.

It's one that fitted on my Seat Altea too. You know the type with the plastic clips which slip between the "hatch" and the body.

Cheers,

Matt.

Why would you want to ride a bike when you've got a Barchetta? If you need the exercise, change gears more often :slayer:

Come on boys, get off his case! May I suggest you cycle from home and then enjoy the rest of the day driving about in your b looking cool and feeling fit. The chances are there is nothing suitable and trying out something might just spoil your b's looks or worse still....the paintwork!:( (from one cyclist to another!)

There is this solution from a guy in holland - Jan Willem Quellhorst

Click here to go to his website and under the barchetta turbo section select other modifications and scroll down towards the bottom.

He has used a tow bar to put the rack on - see sample picture with the bikes in place.

Thats what i was going to suggest, an expensive way to get a bike on the car, thought about a folding bike?

Thanks for all your replies gents, looks like I'll try a cycle rack from Halfords and let you all know if it works out.(y)

As it’s the season for the thread resurrection – the joy of search – and thanks to whomever for deleting that one about a b being for sale from a few years ago.

I’ve just obtained a new unused Fiat boot rack at an unbelievably low price, also with the intention of using it to transport a bicycle.

While the pictures on the brochure show the lip at the rear of the car I believe wisdom dictates that this is turned around so as the items on the rack do not fly into the back of your head under heavy braking. As per this image from R30GUE.

I’d be interested if anyone has used a bike bag with one of these as the dimensions of the bag are almost twice the depth of the rack, or did you just place the bike on the rack. It would defeat any pretence at safety if I had to put the bag on top of the lip. :bang:
