Yugo. Gorgeous original paint (small rust spot on hatch), runs, drives well. Interior decent, some sunfade from Grandpa's carport. Plastic temporary gas tank, original rusted out sittin'. $1800 for a ton o fun!

Find him on Facebook. ;)

Did they actually sell yugos in America, lol?

Yes they did, in large numbers in fact...!!
At first, the Yugo was a big success, but Yugo America ( We go in a Yugo...) ran into financial trouble, and faded away quickly from the US market!

Read all about it here:

Back of the class with you and don't come back until you've watched the film "Dragnet". :)

Worst car in the world Peter? That must have been written before the Citroen Picasso was conceived.

I am genuinely surprised that Americans would've even considered a yugo!

The Yugo GVX model with Air con, 5 gear box, 1,3 fuel injection engine, special trim with alloy wheels etc. was with 3,999 US $ a real bargain, and not bad at all, if only the US importer had sorted out things right....
The Yugo Cabrio was just unreal, but it came to late to save the Yugo reputation in the US....

Genuinely shocked! What did the US importer need to sort out?

We drove a white Yugo 55 GLS back in the Eighties as a second car.
There was nothing wrong about it, we even went on a holidaytrip to Italy with it...!
During the late Eighties I visited the USA many times, and as a Yugo owner we did visit about 5-6 Yugo dealers, just of curiosity, everywhere in the States
American dealers gave a new Yugo away for free, when someone bought a new mid or large size American car from them...can you believe that..??

Anyway, the American importer ran into trouble, when they didn't get parts in time ( or complete cars...), and they were to small to cover the complete USA for warranty claims etc.
So, after a few good years, the word spread out that Yugo's were bad cars, and Yugo America was finished in a short time...
So no more "We Go in a YUGO"...in the States.
The war in Yugoslavia and the bombing of the Zastava plant didn't help much either...
But, I would love to own an USA specs Yugo 65 Cabrio today, if only I could find a decent one....
