Isn't the idea that it draws air from high up out of water's reach, rather than below the air filter where the standard set-up draws it?

Or it could be that they think it looks good! ;)

To have a proper working snorkel the air filter needs to be enclosed and connected to the snorkel so as to prevent water ingress. That snorkel can only be for show.

Your all wrong...

It the new Eco friendly mod which fiat will be rolling out across the range.

Water rolls off the roof, down the drainpipe and is collected for later use on your lawn or plants during times of drought.

I thought you were going to say it fed into the header tank in case of radiator leaks or HG failure! :D

Could be hooked up later using a component not advertised in this listing...

That would actually be quite clever as I did find the snorkel upset the engine performance on mine a bit. Even using snorkel pipe much larger than the minimum intake diameter on the air box...I think it was 50mm internal diameter... But, would suck (literally) if you forgot to connect it all up before going into some water though

It won't make a naff of difference anyway as soon as you hit deep puddles the water will be up the bulk head and into your plugs leaving you at the side of the road with no go!

Si your engine is far better with having the plugs at the front, I didn't even realise the older one were like that until we had a look last weekend.

Yeah I have to say I didn't realise that water in the spark plugs was common on the fire engine but thinking about it I remember a story another forum member said a while ago now about spraying WD40 around the spark plugs to clear some of the water out and getting blue sparks...I think he should have done this with the engine not running!!

I think another benefit of the OHV engine is the spark plugs also can't get water pooling around them as they are sloped with no recess so water just pours off straight away. My sump guard design does deflect the mud / water around the engine as well.

Must be something that can be done to avoid this issue on the the FIRE though. Other than fitting a Diesel one haha!!

Si

Yes the OHV in yours is ideal for playing in water and moreso with the sump guard. I think some kind of plastic deflector would have to be made to mount around the back of the engine between it and the bulk head. For a vehicle that is designed to be run in rougher conditions and where deeper water would be, the recessed plugs is a bit of a rubbish design

Back on again!
