Well, arcade Space Invaders was 1978 and hand held LED electronic games were popular in the early 1980's. Then remember that the mk2 Astra GTE (1985 - 1991) was available with a digital dashboard, as was the curvy 2nd generation Carlton/ Senator (1986 - 1994). The Tipo DGT introduced in 1988 also had a digital dashboard therefore it shouldn't be so surprising that the 1986 - 1989 model of Uno Turbo could be ordered with one too.

So yes, digital really was invented back then
