A mk2 punto for £700 bin

says needs a gearbox, but a mk1 one should fit, can pick them up for £60

sounds good but im always a bit dubious about car ads with short descriptions... maybe thats just me being paranoid....

good point. plus it looks like its at some sort of garage/workshop and he seems to sell a few cars. if it was just gearbox, why not fit it himself and get a lot more for it? plus all his other car ads have big pics. very iffy if you ask me - having said that, his previous buyers seem happy enough, although he did incorrectly diagnose a problem on one of the bikes he sold.

Most likely a case of "oh yeah it needs a new gearbox" when it actually need a new gearbox, new head gasket, new big end bearings, new rear wheel bearings, has no history or any sign that its ever been serviced and the shocks are leaking too.

No garage would get rid of a car just because it needs a new gearbox. Esspecially not on a car thats as easy to work on as a Punto 1.2 8v. Plus the fact that for £50-60 for a second hand box and a few hours labour, they could make a good £1500 on it.

Ide be a more than a little dubious unless you are going to check it over very carefully first.
