Re: Italian-Euro-Style-Number-Plates

Are they actually legal tho? I understand cars shipped over are allowed to use them, but what about cars that have been in the UK from new?

Re: Italian-Euro-Style-Number-Plates

Those plates would probably fail the MOT test. There are strict rules on letter / number size and spacing, might even get you pulled over by plod if you're really unlucky.

Re: Italian-Euro-Style-Number-Plates

It says in the description they're for show use only. Oddly, I saw a 106 with this kind of plate on today. I like them though, and if they weren't mired in legal doubt then I might even buy some.

The law on number plates.....
Also depends what part of the country you live , I.E Police tolerance

Vehicles constructed before 1.1.73 may display traditional style "black and white" plates i.e. white, silver or grey characters on a black plate.
Lettering must be of a set size. It must conform to one of the two groups below.

Characters: Group 1: Group 2:
Height 89mm 79mm
Width, except the number 1 64mm 57mm
Stroke 16mm 14mm
Side margin 25mm 11mm
Top and bottom margin 13mm 11mm
Space between characters 13mm 11mm
Space between groups 38mm 33mm

There are additional arrangements if the vehicle is a motorcycle or tricycle.
Traditional number plates fitted to vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1973 are not required to display the mandatory character font, but the characters must be easy to read.

Re: Italian-Euro-Style-Number-Plates

chavvage

you get 3 points per plate, its the same as a bald tyre, but far more visible.

on the plus side- gatso's cant recognise your plate so there's a good chance the delay this causes will mean you dont get points for speeding. thats why they're illegal.

Re: Italian-Euro-Style-Number-Plates

Gotta love the pressed plates. But the enforcement of the number plate laws vary from place to place, like most traffic laws.

Cool on older fiats, not so much the new ones

Re: Italian-Euro-Style-Number-Plates

Crap and you aren't legally allowed to display an Italian Europlate on a GB registered car. Would fail MOT and the police may ask you to change it/fine you as has been mentioned.

Not legal but can look nice when designed properly i.e. correct spacing including the '-' when appropriate. i do like them but wish they were legal here
