Possibly old stock been in a lockup/yard where all cars are kept before before being registered and then registered in 01 perhaps a request made to a fiat dealer for one.

Possibly even an import? Still sell on continent i.e. like classic pandas long after UK life

Why does everyone post up these type of threads as if being a Y makes it uber strange, it could have been used off road or taken abroad, the 2001 only refers to it's first registraion in the UK.
