Save the marquee!!!

Ok guys we are in a pickle. Since stu sadly passed away last year the local Parrish that he was associated with kindly let us store the marquee on there premises thus saving us lots of money in storage fees. Unfourtunatly as of the middle of last week the parish has decided to purchase their own so no longer want to store ours. While we all appreciate everything the parish has done by holding on to it, it has dropped us right in it.

The marquee will be used this weekend for MITCAR but after the show we litararly do not know what to do with it. So this is an appeal to anyone who has some space avalible - an empty garage or unit, or workshop. To store it we'll need a space of around 3x3 meters. There's about 70 odd poles, three bags of canvases and two boxes of associated items. If anyone can help please get in touch with either @ben or @dombooth

Thanks guys

Hire isn't cheap as they normally come with people to set them up. It will fit in an attic or old outside loo or coal shed

Daves right, hire isn't an option as it way too expensive. It's either find someone who's willing to hold it or rent storage. As it stands Doms holing on to it for a few weeks but after that it will be gone if we can't find a place to store it

Re: Save the marquee!!!

How many times per year is it used?
Where is it used?
What are the travel costs to and from it's storage place?

I can't offer storage space but might know a potential buyer.
What does it look like packed away and erected?

It's used at least three times a year at various outdoor locations (Surrey and two places in the midlands area).

The travel costs vary. I don't know exactly how much it cost but @dombooth would know but basically the price of van hire for a weekend plus fuel

Our marquee can best be described as "industrial" meaning that it's erected using 2 inch poles that slot into T pieces to make a frame that a canvas fits over the top. Two sizes can be made the large size is colossal but there is a smaller canvas which is also used which basically fits over a shortened frame. Once up it is quite impressive and comes with sides and zip up door.

Disassembled you have about 60 poles, 2 boxes of T pieces and about 4 hippo bags with all the canvases in which make up the whole kit (both sizes and sides should you wish to fit them) and also a few boxes with associated items such as toggles and things to hold the canvases on.

Ths is the smaller size marquee without the side pieces fitted. The large one is double the length

from a different perspective..

pay for a midlands based storage,
but link with another organisation who will pay for rental on a few weekends a year..that would save THEM money, AND cover our storage fees,

(sounds like that's what the Northants organisation were doing in essence,)

for those that dont know - the marquee is PLAIN WHITE, and the organisation attach a banner for their event

just a thought..

Divide it up so you have sets of poles and roof and sides and distribute it amongst the administration.

I think that would be a logistical nightmare to arrange. If for some reason one person couldn't make it a vital part could be missing. We would need everyone with the pats to turn up. Plus we are getting short of members who want to help out

Re: Save the marquee!!!

Would it be easier to do a map of event members and then locate the marquee centrally to as many as possible ? That at least gives you a rough area to start looking for storage etc.

A problem for clubs all over. I was the trailer secretary for a club in NZ for two years and they had some fine trailers and saved a great deal of money but I got pretty sick of it in the end. People do not want to help out these days, they just want to turn up, pay some money and go home. In the old days before TV it was a lifestyle and now there there is the internet and you name it.

people move on quickly these days too plus you can't force people to help. One of the issues with this marquee is that it requires a lot of logistics and effort to bring to life. Just getting it to a show requires van hire, a trip to where it is, load it up and get food then proceed to the event .......then get it built. It's a lot to ask.

I may be able to offer storage for the marquee, but it is in West London (Kensington) which may be a logistical nightmare...
