DRL Legal Colour

Can "Yellow" bulbs be used for DRL's instead of "White" or "Standard" colour & not fail the MOT or get stopped by police n get a fine & 3 points.

Drls are not part of a mot as u dont need day running lights aslong as the error message is not on the dash that the only part it could fail on and any colour but red and blue and u should be fine

Re: DRL Legal Colour

By my reading of the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations, the only non-white lights you can show to the front of a car in the UK are indicators and headlamps. All non-mandatory lights must confprm to the standards of the mandatory ones. From this DRLs must be white. Any light must be "E" marked and as yellow is not correct for DRLs your light will be illegal on that count too. I don't think the MOT station would fail for it, but a police officer trained in vehicle inspection might give you a ticket. The biggest issue I can see is that it will give any copper and excuse to pull you over.

Re: DRL Legal Colour

Lighting offences are a non endorse or offence, so you wouldn't get 3 points. However, you may be told to have them replaced using a VDRS which is the Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme. Through this you would be given 14 days to fix the problem then get it confirmed through an MOT test centre before presenting the details to a police station.
