Hi, our car has been judged a Cat C write off but exhaust is prob OK.
Car is at salvage yard but not sold on yet.
We had Record Monza exhaust fitted and still have original Turismo exhaust unused in garage.

What I want to know is does anyone think it is worth us getting salvage yard to swap exhausts over so we can try and sell the Monza exhaust. Car only done 13400 miles so should still be pretty good.

Do you think there would be any interest from any Fiat folk on buying the exhaust and what sort of price range. Anything under £150 and it is prob not worth the hassle.

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this. Thanks.

Yes get it if it is in good shape its worth a few £

At what stage is the insurance claim, if your insurance company have yet to pay out then you need to be fast and make sure they are happy for you to swap it as if you declared it as a mod then there payout will be based on having that modification. If you didn't declare it then they could invalidate your insurance.

If they have made an offer then it again will be based on having that pipe on it.
If they have paid out then they now own the car as is so chances are it will be a big no

At any of these stages you will probably have to pay the salvage yard to do the work for you which they might not do as they may not have the facilities or time to do.

And if the peeps at the salvage yard are the usual neanderthals, you may well get a reply concerning both sex and travel.

Thanks people.
Well the insurance company thought none of the factory mods were worth an extra penny, apart from the uprated alloys which put an extra £50 on their valuation.
Bit galling to get £50 back on nearly £2k of extras.
So we might go back and say as they see the exhaust as valueless can we have that back in exchange for the original exhaust.

They have paid out but we are only accepting payment on "interim basis". We luckily had gap insurance so hopefully that will cover the difference.

Reckon someone who can be bothered to repair it gets a nice little motor.

If you have been paid then it's too late, you no longer own the car and have no claim to any part of it, and you'll probably get a reply as suggested by snes

To say galling the insurance co wouldn't pay out for £2k of modifications is not surprising, the reality is mods don't add value, and worst still they often cause the car to loose value if done badly or they're not tasteful
Swapping wheels on a car that would have had special wheels when new for instance may mean a new owner ends up spending a fortune paying to put the original oem wheels back on

Declare mods are valued at the price to have them on a replacement vehicle (less depreciation) for most insurance companies, not the market value of a car with the mods.
