Silly title I know....

But I've been thinking of late that the Abarth 500 section and the 500 section should become one as they used to be? The Abarth 500 section front page has almost 3 months worth of threads on it! Perhaps I remember things wrongly, but I seem to remember that the Abarth section only really became separate because of one rather militant Abarth owner who seemed to have a chip on his shoulder.......

I know not everyone will agree, but I feel that the Abarth section would be richer for being with the 500 section and vice versa. Perhaps to help with differentiation there could perhaps be an Abarth 500 prefix if people still wanted the Abarth threads to be differentiated from the normal 500 threads?

I don't know how the AGP and APE people feel, but the post count is absolutely dismal in those forums!

Discuss :)

Only having recently browsed the Abarth forum, ahead of my delivery of a new Abarth next week, I was surprised to see the limited input -vs- the 500 forum. I have found invaluable advice over the 14 months of being involved on the 500 forum and support 306maxi's view.

Join them up, good idea.
On saying that, don't some Abarth owners say it's not a Fiat so don't want to be associated with Fiat? Although this is the Fiat Forum.

Not sure if it's correct, but I was told the car shell is produced at the Fiat factory then passed to Abarth for engine, suspension and all the other fittings.

So for me it is a fiat derivative. But if you want to be elitist, then you would say not.

I suppose you can liken it to living in an area that is mid stream, but right next door to a posher locale. So you add the latter portion to your address to make it look better.:D

I just found this also

http://www.abarthisti.co.uk/abarth-history/

It's a Fiat if they put engine etc in it else where makes no difference it's still Fiat Engines, Gearboxes etc. And yes IIRC we didn't want to split up the sections anyway.

That's like saying a Fiat Coupe 20VT is a Ferrari because it was built in the Ferrari factory.

Agree join them up, it would be great to go to one area to find out about both the Abarth and the normal 500.

[broken record mode]I still think it's a spectacular fail to have separated the brands (by Fiat, not on the forum) when the Abarth could have simply been sold in normal Fiat places, they would have sold so many more..... Could have considered still having Abarth specialists to sell the 695's and so on, but it's just a flipping 500 t-jet with sportier suspension and a slightly different interior[/broken record mode]

The idea in principle was sound and something like this needed a fair trial. I'm sure everyone will agree it has now had this and therefore it is a moot point that Daniel has made and deserves to have a reasoned discussion/debate.

I'm pretty sure that no-one in the A500 section is suffering under the delusion that the A500 is anything other than a moderately tuned Fiat, which has a high percentage of Fiat parts as standard.

Below is my recommendation to the forum moderators/admin as ultimately they will make the decision but please feel free to discuss your reasonings here as the more opinions we receive will help to make that final decision.

"A few weeks ago I might have thought differently but it seems that recently we have been getting some more members and they are not all new. Some are existing 500 members who obviously like the 500 per se but who want an easy way of gaining more performance without the hassle of going down the tuning route.

I agree that the AGP and APE forums are a little less populated but then again so are some of the ordinay Fiat sections. However, if the forums were merged and the Abarth prefix was kept (as stated) then we would still have dedicated forums but more input on the problems that affect the non Abarth specific items from the bigger mother forum members."

p.s. Daniel, perhaps it might be a good idea to also post this thread in the 500 section as only a few people from there will see it here.

I agree with that Tony, keep the individual forums, so if someone doesn't want to read about issues specific to a 1.2 for instance, then they don't need to, but automatically put anything posted in an Abarth section into the relevant 500, Grande Punto or Punto Evo forum with an Abarth prefix.

That's obviously if the software allows for it :)

I got my reg documents for my car this morning and it says Abarth on it, doesn't mention fiat, so I've changed my mind and now I'm a separatist. All I need now is wiper arms that don't say Fiat on them....

Go for some Bosch Aerotwin wipers then that'll confuse you even more:D
