Hi guys

I just got my car back from insurance, long story, but now it seems that I have a problems.

The main display fuel gauge is acting a bit erratic at first it stayed at 53 miles when I picked the car up and after revving through all gears on the motorway to get used to it again it started to read the correct fuel level but it seems that it now goes from 200 to 150 to 190 then 187 and constantly goes around like that then settles back to a sensible level and goes down normally. What could be the issue. I suspect that the battery died/disconnected while they waited four weeks for the part and then jumped it without my knowledge before I picked it up so it started and there were no problems. I guess it could be it still needs calibrating even though i go through the revs so the ecu and ecm can get everything it needs and be right. I knew the fuel was off at first as the fuel gauge next to it was 2 bars when it would be none or 1 bar. The main display of fuel never seemed to match after this. would it matter that the car was in sport mode for the first few drives as i didn't notice they touched it?

Thanks for all the help

I'm not sure I understand your post? Are you talking about the fuel read out on the screen? This will go up and down depending on how you are driving at the time. You can't really relate this constantly changing value with the actual fuel gauge. The readout is only a rough guide of fuel being used. If you drive at a steady 60mph the readout will show a good mpg but if you drive in town it will show a low mpg but the gauge will still show the same amount of fuel e.g. 2 blocks etc.

I realised that but I thought there might be a problem as before it would go down steadily not making big jumps and now it seems to be jumpier even in towns and even sitting in stopped traffic at idle. Could be my imagination as I have been without it for 5 weeks!

The readout changes all the time as it's only an average worked out while driving. It really is only a guide.

Ok i understand but now expalin how 31 miles is appropriate for roghly 4 bars of fuel and i was getting 30mpg average and now it is just - - - and mpg is still going now rember every worked fine then got it back and this ******

When computer works out there is less than 30 miles range the computer defaults to **** and stops giving a guess. As I said before it is only a rough guide....Stop watching the read outs and use the fuel gauge.

When the tank is nearly empty the low fuel light comes on and normally shows one block on the gauge .... and I've done over 10 miles before filling up. Not sure how much was left though?

I dont really care but it is more the fact it workes when it went in now it is ****** up when getting it back and well i dont want to go back to them as they are a fiat specialist but didnt know the fiat 500x had a electronic parking brake as standard

If they didn't know that then I deffo wouldn't go there then.

They seriously showed up with a truck on the bed and the courtesy car on the back with the front wheels up and then I said: "you're not taking my car by only lifting the front wheels up as the handbrake is on and cant come off". I called them and they said, you cant have two cars on your policy so can't leave the courtesy car and the insurance did not say it has an electronic handbrake". Go there when green flag collected the car by street lifting it and a sign says they are an official fiat service station or something like that. They didn't know it had the handbrake as standard.

To make things worse they took 5 weeks to get the car fixed and I went to my family member who works at an Abarth dealer and he said it would take them a week max. they took 4 weeks to get the ignition and a week to get my code. That pissed me off now this! Also, they didn't even bother to fill my front tires with air as they were flat also you can tell the car must of be drained of battery causing the ECU to "reset" meaning it was not used to my driving so no fuel saving for me and the tpms was not going off about the flats, that's how I know

As a previous 500 owner who now has a 500x I think I know what the deal is regarding the "range" estimate.

Think of doing half a tank single journey at 50mpg, the computer works out (extrapolates) that usage for the remaining half a tank, and as you have been doing 50mpg the range is high.

Then if you stop, start a new journey and the mpg is say 25mpg, it forgets the 50mpg of beforehand, obviously though the new mpg is half that of the old one, and the range adjusts accordingly.

This makes sense if you think about it as it would be incorrect for the computer to assume the remainder of the tank was to be used at 50mpg, if conditions only allow 25 mpg.

I have done just over 500 miles in the 500x and I think it's the same setup.

When it comes to the fuel blobs, that also appears the same. The first thing to do is know what the capacity of the fuel tank is and brim it, in my old 500 it was 35 litres. The low fuel light would come on around 25 litres, and all the blobs would vanish at about 29-30 litres, meaning that I had a good 50 miles in it before i needed to fill up (1.3 MJD). I never took it that far but sometimes drove another 20-30 miles and then filled up say 32.5 litres.

From what I have seen the 500x looks the same, and at some stage what I will try and do is as soon as all the blobs go, try and fill up asap and see how much "empty" (no blobs) actually means. I expect from the 48 litre fuel tank it's probably going to be around 42 litres, meaning "empty" implies there's 6 litres of fuel left.

Hi guys quicm update the issue seems to be going as i reset all the trip meters and it is now going back to how it was before but now my stop start is acting because of low oil pressure when it restarts after stalling
