Seat care/upgrades

Hi

We owned a 500 before the 500x which had the darkish tan leather seats. We got them for the style/ quality aspect, and as the standard seats seemed very impractical. The seat fabric was sewn into the seat. Although they looked the part there was no natural ventilation in the centre section and in summer they were sweaty.

I notice in the 500x, things are a bit different, the seats are ecoleather (plastic?) and have a central fabric area which I think works well, as they are ventilated to some degree in the middle where you sit.

I notice all the seats have zips on the backrests and appear as though they could be easily replaced. Yet for some strange reason nobody seems to sell replacements, any ideas why?

It's not that I'm thinking of replacing with dark tan again, not because I don't unnecessarily want to peel a lot of cows but because I'm unsure it'd match with the door inserts and centre armrest. However I think the seat covers on the lounge "city look" car are classy and brighten the interior up and wouldnt clash in the same way.

Finally, has anyone protected what they have currently? I'm reading around and scotchguard multi purpose seems to be an easy to apply cost effective solution.

I would have thought the reason the seats are zipped is so you can replace/access the seat/airbag without destroying the whole seat. I had my driver seat back replaced due to the logo peeling off......

Re: Seat care/upgrades

I used regular furniture Scotchguard on the bright red cloth seats of my previous car, a 500, and they still looked good after 46000 miles. Must get round to treating the fabric bits on my 500X lounge. I use leather wipes on the "leather" bits. The contrasting interior was a powerful factor in choosing the car, I think it looks very classy.

Not sure if these are leather or "leather" but either way I like them

Re: Seat care/upgrades

Just looked on the configurator for the Lounge. It says the gearknob and steering wheel are leather wrapped, but the seat trim is "ecoleather", which I guess is some form of vinyl. I'm not too worried, as you say it looks and feels good.

I agree. I wondered if mine would have those seats before I got it, instead i got the all white 500 logo and grey sides. Not quite as good as I like a bit of colour in the interior. That said I think the roof lining makes a lot of difference and the cream colour (if i remember right) lightens the interior up.

I never did work out what the differentiator was to get them, is it just an alternative choice in the configurator or is it the difference between cross and cross plus? I expect the former because they only really work with a red exterior imo.

By the way, I had a closer look at the pic of those tan seats I posted a pic to earlier, it seems on closer inspection the inserts are ventilated a bit.

Re: Seat care/upgrades

I may be wrong, but I think the contrasting part "leather" trim is only available with the Lounge variant, and the light colour is a no cost option when new. Mine was used, and a couple of cars I looked at had dark coloured leather on the seats. Specifications vary all the time, but you can get some idea of what is availble on current models by playing with the configurator on the Fiat website.
