I have a 500x Cross Plus with the 6.5" centre screen - I noticed within the phone section there is a 'messaging' option which is always greyed out.

Just wondered if it should work to receive (read out) messages ?

What phone do you have? I have an iPhone but wife has an android phone. Won't do my messages but will when her phone is connected. Think it's a compatibility issue for some phones.

Ahh - it's an iPhone. No worries I may grab somebody with an Andriod and check.

I don't think this answer is going to help you very much, but I have an Android Phone. When connected via Bluetooth sometimes MESSAGING is greyed out and sometimes it is white and activated. When it is white it reads out my text messages, when it is greyed out it does not. I have spent many long hours trying to figure out the reason why, so far I have failed. Even 3rd party apps only work intermittently with my phone.

One day it will turn white for you I'm certain [emoji23][emoji23]

I have an andriod and i get the woman to read em out, works fine.

Just me then, story of my life

I've got it working on iPhone

So - on iPhone go into Settings | Bluetooth | pick Uconnect and click the I icon.

Then simply select 'Show Notifications' -- when connected up 'messaging' is no longer greyed out... so I assume it works, just need to sit in a running car at night and wait for someone to message me

Also - first time I've sat in the car in the dark -- love the mood lighting

What model IPhone are you using, I have a 5S and whilst all other services & connections work on it I cannot 'un' grey the message button.

Tried it with a 6s and 7, both work. What was interesting was that the 'show notifications' within the Bluetooth setting was disabled when I paired the 6 but was enabled automatically with the 7.

But toggling that setting causes the messages to ungrey / grey out .

I'm also having this issue with my Android. Usually it's greyed out at the start and gets activated after a while. I think it just needs some time to refresh the messaging data.

Gave up trying to get the 6.5 Uconnect to show messages, then switching on the next day there it was working perfectly and since. Guessed it all needed turning off for a while then back on , ignition ON/OFF, this allowed the system to reboot I expect

Apple 5S phone and UConnect 6.5 inch screen.

A final point recently had all the maps upgraded along with the operating system, workshop job, Now running 17. something or the other so perhaps this has helped as well.

When I connected to the Uconnect system, the lady at the dealership said there is a problem with iPhones and Uconnect, it can read messages but can’t reply because Uconnect can’t reply to iMessages, hope this helps

The UConnect messaging system won't work unless you have the appp installed and running. I have the 6.5 inch screen using an Apple 5S phone. The system speaks the message and stores it on the screen until you turn the ignition off. I don't believe it is possible to send a message from the screen, it may be possible using SIRI on an IPhone but never tried it.
