My 500X was due its first service today, 1 year since first registration, all went well on that front it is only basically an inspection and the cost was £64.00.

At the same time I wanted the maps upgraded on the 6.5 inch unit. The garage knew I was bringing it in for that as well but the message from the tech was'you can do it yourself'. I explained that if it was the 5 inch unit that would be the case but the 6.5 is a garage job, but i don't think they believed me. There are updates available but as Manuel would have said 'they know nothing'.

So they are raising a technical query with Fiat so I expect to get an apology soon.

How can car agents not know how to service these cars on something that is an essential part of it.

You're absolutely right Ron, the 5" is user updatable and the 6.5" is a workshop job. This has been verified to me by my dealer (who knew how to do it) and Fiat Customer Services

Thanks for your reply Alan, what part of the country do you live and what agent sorted your Uconnect? Did they let you into the secret of how it was done?

I live near Wrexham and the dealer was Stoneacre. No secret, they just did it without any fuss. The one thing that became blindingly obvious was that Fiat Customer Services don't really understand the 6.5 uConnect unit and the dealership had to learn a lot of it on the fly, but they just got on with and did it. All of the problems I have encountered with uConnect have been resolved by the dealership to my complete satisfaction, Fiat Customer Services did nothing but confuse the situation and tell me things that were blatantly untrue

Fiat customer service seems to be abysmal.

I went to get my map updated and firstly they denied there was an update.

When I pointed out that their website said there was, they tried to tell me it was a job I could do myself.

When I explained that was for the 5" version and that for the 6.5" version it was a workshop job, after checking with the 'Master Technician' they decided I was right.

So I booked the car in for the next week and took it on the appointed day.

I had to wait for it to be done as it only takes an hour and it would take me that long to get there and back.

So after sitting there for an hour they bring me my key back and say 'sorry we couldn't get the update downloaded from Fiat'!

WFT! It's not like they didn't know I was coming and it was required.

So now they are going to download it first and then call me to come back.

It's a joke.

I'm absolutely amazed they didn't have it downloaded ready. Very shoddy

I must say it surprised me.

I love the car but Fiat are just shocking.

Only other issues apart from that are to do with Uconnect Live, sometimes the phone will not connect and I have to turn everything off and on several times to make it work, the fact that it doesn't remember things like speed camera settings and the fact that sometimes the Live services just aren't available.

But apart from that it's all good and seems very sturdily built (someone tried to pull the wing mirror off in the first month of ownership and although the mirror ended up pointing down slightly, on other cars I would have found it dangling by wires)

Yes, the Live services are very over-rated, up to 12 camera alerts per camera and total failure to remember the settings. I'm seriously considering ditching it for a standalone TomTom unit with lifetime map and traffic updates, just use uConnect for Phone and Music. If they try to charge me for my next maps update that will definitely be happening. Dealer has been great, Fiat Customer Services less so

Well the saga continues.

Having been told by the dealer that they had now downloaded the map update I booked the car in again.

Half an hour to drive to the to the dealer and then a wait of an hour only to be told 'sorry we need to get a piece of software from Fiat to download the update'.

What a joke, even if they made a mistake in telling me that the update had been downloaded, why did it take an hour to realise that it hadn't.

That's half a day out of work so far and two wasted trips.

I can't believe you're the first person to go back for a map update, uConnect is not unique to the 500X or even Fiat. I hope the dealer compensates you in some way.
