500x Adjustable Boot Floor with Spare Wheel

Onto less esoteric and more mundane things.

My 500x has a spacesaver spare. Normally I leave it in the garage and have gel kit in the car, so that I can maximize boot space if needed.

However I'm heading off on a long trip and will be in some remote areas so want to take the spare with me.

However I can't for the life of me see how can put the boot floor on the mid setting if you put the jack and the polystyrene storage holder back in.

Anyone know or have some pics?

Cheers.

I suspect that if I remove the polystyrene storage holder and somehow move the jack it will work.

I know that some FIATs have a tray thing that holds the jack and tools that sits inside the spare wheel. Might try and get one from eBay.

Re: 500x Adjustable Boot Floor with Spare Wheel

With the jack/tool kit in its normal RHS strap location this determines the boot floor height location. Same for the polystyrene holder. This leaves a 2.5 inch (approx.) gap above the wheel itself.

If you look at the two black plastic locators behind the back seats you will see that there is a groove/slot in them.

You have to put the floor back at a 40 degree angle slotting the far end into the slots, push back and then lower the near end down.

So have you removed the tools to do this? If so what do you do with them?

If I leave the polystyrene thing in place I can't see how you can utilise the lower slots.

Not sure I think it's a great system but many thanks for the enlightening post.

I haven't been too brutal but I don't think it is possible to use the lower slots with the polystyrene thingy and space saver wheel in situ. Am I missing something?

Re: 500x Adjustable Boot Floor with Spare Wheel

Just got my 500X back from wife (was working on her "B").

What I thought was a lower slot is not. It is just a 40 degree racked lip.

With the toolkit/polystyrene items in place then the moveable boot floor can only sit on top of the support brackets behind the rear seats.

Still requires the floor to be introduced at a 40-45 degree angle.

I've never run with no space saver so can not definitively comment on the lower floor position.

Re: 500x Adjustable Boot Floor with Spare Wheel

Cheers all for the input. In short here's what I think is the definitive answer after looking at a couple of other 500x at the dealers.

In short with space saver and tool kit and polystyrene storage holder in place there is only 1 usable position which leaves the boot pretty small.

Take out the polystyrene storage holder and the tools and you can lower the floor by a couple of inches but you'll have to stow the tools somewhere.

If you remove the wheel, toolkit and polystyrene storage holder and just use a gel kit you can drop the floor to it's lowest position for a pretty generous increase in capacity. But of course you have binned the spare... not ideal for a transcontinental trip.

It's a shame really as with a bit of thought and just delving into the MOPAR catalogue they already have a solution in the shape of a toolkit that sits inside the spare wheel.

Going to see if I can cobble something similar up.

Re: 500x Adjustable Boot Floor with Spare Wheel

Probably stating the obvious here!
Just back from 2600 mile thru France.
I simply packed some clothing etc (in plastic bags) on top of and around the wheel.
You can fit in quite a lot; virtually all my own clothing fitted!
Wife and son's in traditional spot; ie boot in cases

Re: 500x Adjustable Boot Floor with Spare Wheel

Since day one I've left the space saver in but removed the polystyrene moulding.

From the top of the space saver to the boot floor there is height gap of just over 3 inches. On top of the wheel I have 2 of those large flat hobby boxes. In one foes a comprehensive metric socket/torx/spline/screw bit set and a star socket set. In the other goes tow rope, tyre repair, warning triangle, plus other stuff. Behind wheel by back seats are two tool rolls with spanners, allen keys, torx keys, screw drivers, mole grips, junior hacksaw, etc. etc. Coiled around the wheel in the well are a selection of fuel/water/other hoses. To left of wheel is another 12 inch long 6 inch high plastic hobby box with small tool case (pliers, cutters, mini screw drivers, thumb screw, etc. then case of nuts, bolts, washers, electrical connectors, spark plugs, tape, hose bands, etc.

Still plenty of room left for foot pump, 1L or oil, 1L coolant, 250ml brake fluid, gloves, cloths, and other stuff plus of course the Fiat tool kit.

So yes I have a pretty completely equipped garage in my 500X's boot space.

How sad

Where'd you put the Jack? Presume you've taken it out of the bulky polystyrene block and zip bag?

Cheers

Re: 500x Adjustable Boot Floor with Spare Wheel

I have just got my 500x, and found it had the space saver tyre in.

It's kinda a 2 way thing, I'd like the xtra space but with the shelf raised the floors flat, makes it handy when im taking the pushchair in and out.

That said I googled the tyres on the car for a bit more info, apparently their runflats, so I'm wondering if I need a spare after all?
