Hi there
Anyone had an update to the 6.5in screen satnav ? mine seems well out of date with old cameras coming up that have been removed for years and not seeing roads that have been there for more than a year.

I also have a 6.5 Uconnect. I have had the car since last August and was pre-registered with just 10 miles on the clock. I understand that my car was built late 2016 and was probably an unsold 'launch' model as it had all the extra bits on it apart from the launch badges. I did carry out an over the air via the internet a system upgrade but my understanding is that this had no effect on the maps. I have been following the Uconnect discussion on the forum very closely and it appears there is an map upgrade available for the 6.5 but only through a dealer or Fiat workshop. This upgrade apparently gives proper TomTom mapping via internet using a mobile phone to connect.

I have approached a couple of Fiat dealers, the one where I got the car and one more local to me and they cannot confirm if there is an update or not though several owners on the forum have posted photos showing a different screen to mine.

Unfortunately there are not many vehicles with the 6.5 fitted and as a result dealers are not very knowledgeable and calls to Fiat just say go to the dealership.

My map version number is 15. something and the new one apparently is 16. something.

I am waiting for my first service that wont be long now and if they hook the car to the computer system it should upgrade, I cannot confirm if this will be a free upgrade or chargeable, time will tell.

I have a 6.5 unit and started badgering Fiat about new maps late last year. Basically new maps are only released every 2-3 years which is a bit of a joke, however they did update my uConnect system to version 16 point something and I now have slightly newer maps with TomTom mapping and TomTom live.

Keep on at your dealer or Fiat CS, there should be something available for you now.

Is the TomTom mapping and TomTom live through your mobile phone or is it direct to the Uconnect without need for a phone connection?

TomTom Live only works via the mobile uConnect App, but I did get a new(er) set of maps, I'll get the details for you later

My upgrade was free if that helps

Thanks for that, when using the nav unit through the phone and app is there a bar down the side of the screen giving hold us and delays etc just like there would be on a stand alone TomTom that you stick on the window?

Interesting that you guys expected free map updates. Audi, VW, BMW etc. Charge for new maps as do Garmin and Tom Tom unless you have the lifetime subscriptions.

Not that I have seen

I don't expect new maps for free, I was quite prepared to pay, but I was led to believe that updates for a certain length of time (I think it was 3 years from 1st registrations date) were included in the price for a 6.5 unit. Anybody know different?

The 5" unit is completely different as it doesn't have to go back to the dealer for updates, but again the ORIGINAL OWNER gets free updates for a while but subsequent owners have to pay TomTom £50 per year

The one thing Fiat don't tell you is that what you're actually doing is paying extra for more hassle! That's what it feels like with the 6.5in UConnect anyway.

I have never been convinced that Fiat actually understand it themselves, and then they introduced the 7" version before the dealers had received ANY training to support it.

Unfortunate for us customers! Do they better understand the 7in one?

Ask me one on sport, I doubt it. They over-complicated it the moment they made updates a trip to the dealer. There should be no reason why we can't update via USB like wot the 5" owners do. They can also get new maps from TomTom via USB too, up to 4 times a year. Fiat told me that new maps for the 6.5 unit were every 2 years, although it MIGHT be more frequent with TomTom

thanks for the reply's I have the app and tomtom live but not sure how old the maps are as driving along roads that had cameras removed a couple yeas ago still comes up with alerts and cameras that have been for a while don't show at all.

Hi Dunk

If you look at my picture above, you will see that my maps are 2015 Q2.

So they are already about 2 years old and were the latest available last year. I haveca feeling that new maps omly get released for uConnect about once every three years, which isn't really acceptable IMHO. I would be quite willing to for them, but they are simply not available. Do take notice please Fiat

hi Alan I also have a 2016 Kia sportage and the Here maps that were installed were 3 yeas old when I got it, considering the price of preinstalled satnavs on all makes of cars not only Fiat its a disgrace that you can get a tomtom with lifetime maps and cameras for under £100.

(rant over) :slayer:

There are, apparently, proprietary alternatives to the yConnect unit which can be wired to offer all the menu functions for the car but you're lookingat £600-£700 fitted, and I don't know if they come with lifetime maps or not

Just looked on driveuconnect.eu and it says that my 6.5 inch sat nav has a map update available.
Looks like I need to go to a dealers (which I think we already know) but its a bit vague about whether this nav is eligible for the 3 years updates.
I'll have a chat with Fiat.
