My first car with a keyless system and already I am forgetting the keys in the drinks cubby in the centre console !

So, I had an idea - a leather pouch. Looked at a nice zippo leather pouch but although it is perfect for depth and width, its a little too short.

However, I know a guy who is a master leatherworker - he does bespoke work like my swiss army knife pouch etc so I asked him to make me a zippo lighter pouch but a little longer to fit the fob.

Then it will just be a case of wearing it on my belt and the fob will always be with me - not getting left behind !

I find a pocket works perfectly well for me. I have never yet forgotten my trousers when I get out of the car

Could grow into Batman's utility belt with pouches for keyless fob, penknife, phone, house keys etc.

This look would suit him:

On a more serious note I am a little concerned about the "Relay Hack" that is known to work and is quite effective.

https://www.wired.com/2017/04/just-pair-11-radio-gadgets-can-steal-car/

There was also TV coverage with real CCTV footage of criminals attempting and succeeding in doing this relay hack.

Think of it like when you were a kid with two cans and a piece of string.

Now why anybody would want to steal a Fiat over a BMW or MERC I have no idea but as they say every penny counts.

Anyway what I find interesting and stupid is that once the hack has been performed and the car is up an running then the key is no longer required so the thieves just drive off to the workshop and complete the job.

On the 500X you just get a message "no key in car" warning. Apart from that everything else just carries on working.

I hope Fiat bring out a software changed to immobilise the car when "no key in car" occurs.

I always assumed that the engine would cut out when out of range of the key. That is shabby. As you say this should easily be fixable with a software update

Often, it's ordinary cars that suffer more from this type of thing. Common cars are easier to sell. Easier to break and flog the parts for. Often left in less guarded situations as I bet the average ***** extender (BMW) is more likely to be garaged.

Fiestas and Focuses have a major problem with the keyless systems being hacked using the diagnostic port. They get in, use the port to programme a blank key fob, start the car like any other and drive off! I even removed the fuse from my diagnostic port to stop this.
