General 500X vs Renegade

The Dealer that I bought my 500x from also had a Black Renegade, lovely looking car, took it for a test drive before the Fiat, nice car lots of features but was very sluggish to drive, that's how I found it anyway.

Then drove the 500x and loved it, picked up speed well through the Gears and still had plenty of acceleration left in the box in 6th Gear, whereas the Renegade I drove didn't.. Hence my purchase..

I suspect the aerodynamics of the Renegade might be a feature there

Is that comparing like with like (same engine & gearbox)?

Believe the Renegade was a 1.6 diesel, and the Fiat, which I bought is a 2.0 Diesel.. same gear box..

Even with the smaller engine size, I would still have expected the Renegade to have more pick up...

We're in the market for a 500X for the wife and she looked at the Renegade as well as Research in Nuneaton sell Jeeps as well. I've been quite surprised looking at used prices that the Renegade appears to be maintaining slightly higher prices than the Fiat currently.

I've seen a lot more Renegades on the road than I have 500X's. Many of the Fiat's are rentals with big 'Diesel' stickers on the outside of the fuel cap, the Renegades usually have local plates to the area I see them in, so look like proper purchases.

I see about 4 Renegades to every 500X. It seems like it's captured hearts in a similar way to the Nissan Juke. I like the 500X but it's quite sensibly styled in a class where whacky (Juke, Renegade, C4 Cactus) is popular. A quick look on Auto Trader shows there are quite a few more 500X model for sale than Renegades, but the demand appears to be less, which might pull prices down.

Yes on a serious note, it would seem that most people view the Renegade as a bigger car and JEEP as a more prestigious brand even though they are the same vehicle. Like I said having driven both I preferred the FIAT styling and interior, but they were both very pleasant cars.

As a matter of interest how was the under body protection on these vehicles? Jeeps generally seem to be better protected against corrosion (or in the past they were) - is this still the case?

As both cars are built at the same factory by Fiat I would have thought they would be the same.

Sometimes different components and materials are used. The Ford Ka and the Fiat 500 for example. Both built in the same factory by Fiat but not identical by any means.

I would be surprised if the jeep would have better underbody corrosion applied than the Fiat as that would mean the Fiat would be purposely made inferior? They both use the same platform designed by Fiat and I would hope Fiat would want both cars to be equally corrosion resistant.

Seems there has been a few issues.

Answer......when the jeep is made from a Fiat 500x......
Chassis are galvanized, article promoted by company promoting aftermarket treatment. Also comments about dealers adding body grommets in the dealership PDI... which is cobblers. When was the last time someone had an underbody corrosion issue on a modern galvanized car? All a lot of fuss over nothing... unless you plan on keeping it for about 20 years.
