A narrow country lane and a Panda coming in the opposite direction being driven by an elderly lady. At first I thought the lane was wide enough for us both, then I realised that it was just about wide enough for her.

Thump - and my wing mirror was gone. 50 yards later I walked back to the Panda and the lady was frozen to her steering wheel. She was fine, her bloody car was fine and after making sure that the driver and her even older passenger were ok, we shook hands and left. They drove off and I picked up the bits n bobs of my wing mirror from the lane.

Into our Fiat dealer 3 days later and at first I was quoted £250 for a new wing mirror, plus labour plus parts. Cough and splutter.

A day later they rang back and said it could be fixed cheaper, the only thing needing replacement was the flasher unit. The rest of the bits were recoverable.

The final bill was £13.40, that included fitting and VAT. If anyone can beat that for value for money I will eat my hat and everyone else's hat. Sometimes a garage really comes up trumps.

That's impressive. It would probably have cost them more than that in labour costs to prepare the invoice!
