Hi Alan, did you get anywhere with the Tom Tom site?

It's not the easiest to navigate but for mine I found a page that listed the 5" and 6.5" Uconnect units, you click on the image of the relevant unit and it takes you to a product page; you order the product updates from there. For mine I had to download the mapping (which includes the codes for live traffic etc) to a USB stick (8mb min) and then plugged that in to the car and it automatically detected the software and downloaded it. I have links if you haven't got this far already. The process took the best part of an hour end to end.

I also updated the Uconnect app on my phone and have it running in the background on Bluetooth when I'm in the car.

That's very kind of you. Grateful for any links please. I got through to TomTom and they referrred me to Fiat saying they don't support either size unit. Fiat called me back and said they were optimistic that my unit could now be updated, and I'm now at that stage of waiting for them to get back to me with the answer.

Every infpdication from my unit is that it should now be possible, I even have the opportunity to simulate TomTom Live but await a valid subscription.

I have the (I think) latest TomTom maps after upgrade to v16 point something, just need to know how to buy a subscription.

Thanks for your help:)

Apologies, I mis-read, you're right the info for the 6.5" unit is non existent this is where I saw mention of 6.5" nav updates:

https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/in-dash-navigation/

However 6.5 is only mentioned in conjunction with Alfa Romeo... but it's worth sending their customer service team an email to see if it's the same unit (more than likely).

All sorted, thank you very much. E-mailed Fiat Friday, they phoned me back this morning to me that ALL uConnect Live services were nowcactivated on my car, including TomTom Live.

I have yet to work out how to save my Eco data, but I'm not really bothered about that. TomTom Live is working, the rest I won't lose any sleep over.

Great news for he dozens/hundreds of other owners who were previously told the same. :worship:

Hi everyone, I am an owner of a ex rental fiat 500x plate 16.
I spoke to fiat a couple of months ago and I was told that u connect live would never work.
After reading your posts I emailed fiat again last Thursday and I phoned them this morning since I haven't got an answer yet. They told me that they are just getting ready to send me an email, by the end of the week, with some instructions to activate the services (anyone know anything about that??) and everything should work fine.
Plus, i have been to 4 different fiat dealers and none of them has got a clue about u connect live or the problem that we are having.
I will just wait for these "instructions" from fiat and will let you know how it goes.
Meanwhile if anyone has got any advice please let me know.
Thanks!

Hi,

I hope I can answer this for you clearly. Basically Fiat lied to you the same as they lied to me and many others, something about the unit not having a necessary chip.

Having upgraded the firmware to version 16 point something at the dealers, everything else was done remotely.

You will need the uConnect app on your mobile phone, and also in Apps on your uConnect Unit. You will also need to create a uConnect account if you don't already have one (free).

Then it really is just a case of following the instructions and watch the 'impossible' come to life. To be honest the only part I'm ever likely to use is TomTom Live on the Nav, but everything now works on my 15 plate ex rental 500X.

I hope that helps you. Good luck

I'm going to buy a 2017 Fiat 500c with 5.0 uconnect. It doesn't have navigation. Does anyone know if I can put Android auto on it so I can get my maps on the screen?

Hi :)
Thanks for your reply, i knew about the instruction but because of the way fiat explained on the phone i thought that there was something in particular to do to "activate" the services, I didn't understand that they do it basically in remote.:D
Do you know how I can check if I have the firmware v16?
I was at Fiat this morning for a service and I was told that there weren't any new updates for my car (I bought it in December).
Just can't wait to get this activation because, just like you, i need to use tom tom live!
Sorry just one more question, my car doesn't have the DAB, do you have it now? Or is it something that will always be missing? (I am not really bothered about DAB but it is just out of curiosity)

Hi Napoli

In the 6.5 unit that information is in Settings>System Information then it's the first or second piece of information. If you have any problems finding it I'll go out to the car and write it down exactly

Good Hunting

Hi Alan, thanks very much for you help.
I managed to activate the services :D my Tom Tom live and all the rest is actually working now!!! I haven't received a reply from fiat yet so i don't think they actually activated it from remote, but i found a guide on another forum about a month ago on how to activate the services. I am going to post a screenshot of the guide at the end.
So basically this guide says to delete Bluetooth history app etc and reinstall logging in with the password "(username)". I tried many times but obviously it wouldn't sign me in. Yesterday I changed my fiat password to (username) and as soon as i got in the car with the Bluetooth on, u connect live open and asked me if i wanted to activate the services, quick update and everything working fine!!! Obviously now i changed my password again and it still works fine! I know it sounds really really weird but if anyone has got the same problem, it is really worth a try!

Great news, it all goes to prove howcwe lied to by Fiat previously.

Good to know that we should all now be able to benefit from what we've paid for

After posting my previous post I contacted fiat who responded very quickly and enabled my services. However I still couldn't get them working so my issues were referred on to their app development team who somehow sorted it out and everything is now working. Took a few weeks but they seemed very keen to help and was phoned and / or emailed most days until it was sorted.

Hello everyone, I seem to have the same problem and through searching for information I've come across this forum.

I've got the app for Uconnect Live downloaded on my phone and it's connected ok with my car, Fiat 500x. When I press the app button on the unit in my car there is no mention of Uconnect Live being there.

Is this to do with the ex rental thing, I didn't know it was ex rental until I got the log book!

Thanks in advance, Elaine

For anybody with a 6.5 unit the software version is nos now 17.00 something, don't know if this applies to the 5 unit as well.

Yes, if you contact FIAT UK via the Ciaio FIAT app they should be able to sort it out.

If you have a car with 5" nav as well, it's worth setting up a TomTom home account so that you can update your maps etc.

Has the 17 point something update solved the multi bong issue with TomTom Live speed cameras?

I managed to kill the beeps when running 15.xxxx, but 17.xxxx has bought up a lot more menu options which at the moment are not clear to me. Am getting some bleeps but not too much, will have to wait until I venture onto my local part of the M25 to hear what really happens, Expect I will have to contact Fiat again just to find out what these extra menu items are for. Sorry I cannot be more helpful at this stage. What the upgrade did do tho' was to stop my front collision warning light from coming on indicating it wasn't working and It has actually come into play on a couple of times - so that is a result.
