In my car
I've got a 6.5" uconnect unit, which I think is horrible and rather outdated (unless you still live in the 90's).

While looking for a replacement, I was always worried that an after-market unit won't have access to the car settings, but then I found this little gadget, by a UK company:

Anyone seen it before or have it installed?

Interesting. I share your view on the 6.5 Uconnect.
You buy one and report back!:)

Would be interested to see what the total cots was to use this product and change the head unit. Have a feeling that it will take it into "considered purchase" territory.

Oh, so I'll be the guinea pig :p

I'm more worried that the total cost, including a good 2-din unit, will reach the "buying an apartment" territory

Go on - do it for the community (y)(y)

Having a quick look at costs, it seems the unit is £145, a head unit with Sat Nav capability is going to be around £550 - £600 (more if you want more toys) and there are some patch cables to buy to fit it all together at around £30.

Not sure if I can justify £750 on this sort of thing to myself, let alone the boss!
Especially as I paid extra for the 6.5 unit in the first place.

You'll then have to look at speakers to improve the sound.
Next thing you'll put your hat on backwards, lower your seat back right down and play music at full volume as you drive past your local co-op.
Its a slippery slope.

Have to say that I've spent some time getting used to the voice control on the standard unit and whilst its not great its really not too bad.
There are some obvious omissions like the ability to mute directions quickly, but I'm warming to it.
My last car could do just about everything up to and including answering emails and I realised what a distraction it was to my driving.

heh that just made my day :D

Although I'm more worried that once my wife finds out that she can read her facebook in the car... oh the horror...

Customtronix has released a new mirroring device called Jailbreaker Connect.
New features and updates are always distributed to customers on demand.

Slightly relevant, at the suggestion of my dealer I'm about to raise a complaint with Fiat regarding their appalling after sales customer support for uConnect. If I've read it right, my maps are Q4 2013, loaded onto the uConnect in 2014 but my car is a 2015 build. Maps are already 3 years out of date.

Fiat tell me to go to dealer for an update/upgrade, dealer assures me that there isn't one for the 6.5" unit, and they have NEVER had one (for the maps that is)

So in the next day or so I shall be composing a strongly worded complaint. With 'free maps' for 3 years from start of warranty date this really is not acceptable when they are not even available for the 500X yet.

The dealer has helpfully provided me with this link (which is encouraging) but no sign of the 500X yet

https://maps.mopar.eu/en/home

Not on a 500X, but on my Abarth with the 7" audio system it took almost an hour to do the update after I'd downloaded it. Still it was a good excuse to go for a drive. ;)

Good for you. I have already raised this with Fiat, before the referenced site/service came on-line.

Whilst you say the 500X is not listed it might worth a punt to download the 500 generic version and see if your 500X will accept it.

What *isses me of is that these map updates (I did some during my 1st 90 days 2015 status) take so long. I don't want to drive for an hour and I don't want to leave the car with ignition on for an hour.

Not everybody can lock their car in a secure garage for an hour and the rest of us may not have the time to sit in the vehicle for an hour whilst the update happens.

For those driving in Turin then 1 hour may be the norm :D

As a result of my complaint Fiat phoned me this morning and assured me that an update has been available since September 2016. "How do I get it then please?" "I'm sorry, I don't know".

So, there is apparently an update available but neither Fiat nor the dealers know how to install it.

Brilliant!!

Going back some 10 years+ ago I (and others) had direct links to UK Fiat employees in Parts, Technical, Homologation, etc. departments AND ALL OF THEM were advocates, dedicated, loyal, customer facing and loyal to the Fiat brand.

In recent years the *available* quality access is now buried behind an emotion less, passion less, only when I care, etc. call centre when *something is logged* and *something* may just transpire.

I've logged through my dealer and direct to Fiat a serious life threatening central locking deadlock issue and well over a year later despite promised response etc. nothing has happened.

I also suspect that Fiat are no different to the rest of the VW/GM/Ford/Vauxhall/Citroen/Pug/....... enterprises.

Any Rolls Royce owners here who can tell us how they perform with regards to customer service and reported issues?

Hello new member here. Just bought a 16 Model Fiat 500x Lounge 1.4 from Motorpoint and discovered that as mentioned in another thread it is one of those ex rental cars that, although it has a Uconnect live unit, the full live service was not enabled as initial spec and according to Fiat UK cannot be retrospectively activated or upgraded. The radio does not have DAB either. Therefore very interested to hear if OP or anyone else has followed through with this upgrade?
Very happy with car and as was very good price accepted as seen and not an issue with dealer. However what I failed to realise and find frustrating is that unless this provides a solution the Fiat line seems to be that there is no way of upgrading the unit without replacing the whole car - what do they do if it simply goes wrong???

My UConnect Services are not enabled, like yours, but I DO have DAB radio. It seems like there are many different permutations and Fiat seem unwilling or unable to do anything about it. I find it absolutely appalling that the more expensive unit should have less functionality than some cheaper units, and no way to 'turn it on'.

It is pathetic and not worthy of a 21st Century car manufacturer.

Just got back from my dealers after a uConnect update, I haven't had the chance to road test it yet but the uConnect Live app has appeared, as has a green smiley face to tell me that I'm driving economically. Will try out the Live Services soon. I can only suggrst that ask your dealer for the (free) update.

Nope, still no uConnect Live services, just the App and a green smiley thing. Contacted Fiat Customer Services who told me that prior to Sept 2015 you will NEVER get Live services regardless of updates cos it's missing a chip that wasn't included before Sept 15.

Regarding the 'Green Smiley Thing' being fairly new to Fiat and especially UConnect(6.5) what does it actually indicate, can't find any mention of it in the handbook. Now had the car 6 months and on the whole very pleased with it. 1.4 DCT Cross with some extra packs. One minor problem is that when starting the car occasionally the emergency brake control is switched off and I have to go into the menu to re-enable it, any body else had this annoying problem.

But otherwise a really lovely comfortable drive with plenty of get up and go if required.

It suddenly appeared with the latest uconnect update. As far as I can tell it just indicates how economically uou are driving, and probably takes it's info from the new uconnect Live app that appeared at the same time, which gives you colour codings for acceleration, decelleration and gear changing.

All in all, a useless gimic, you know whether you're driving evonomically or not.

Thanks for that. Soon after I got my car and had paired my phone with the UConnect I had a message saying an update was available which I carried out, not sure if smiley was there before or not but in the early days it may have been a different colour. Don't really use the apps and TomTom live much as my IPhone is only a G3 model and connection speed is not good. On the whole I find the unit useful but not as comprehensive as the stick on TomTom I used in my old car. No one at the 2 Fiat dealerships I have spoken to about the unit seem to understand it much either. Do you know if there is a web site that gives the version numbers of the various firmware and software that the UConnect 6.5 uses ?

Although I purchased my car in Aug 2016 it was made in Oct/Nov 2015, It has exactly the same spec as the launch models but no additional badges. So presumably as they did not sell well it was pushed out as a regular model with some extra kit after taking the badges off. Still it was a good price , under £17000 with 10 miles on the clock.

I assume you've found the uConnect Live wrbsite. I'm not aware of any other. My maps are not TomTom, they're HERE, and that's where the confusion starts. Different maps, different spec units fitted to comparable cars. Yesterday my dealer told me a story about the new 7" uConnect unit which is a customer option but dealers aren't being given any training on it before next month.

Fiat seem to be in uConnect Chaos
