Don't know if my car is unique in this but I was slightly taken aback with the 'tinny' noise it made when closing the tailgate! Checking all the components separately there appeared to be no obvious resonance but upon slamming the hatch there was a nasty noise like something was loose.

Upon checking my car after purchase I found a black block-like bracket in the spare tyre well and after some detective work realised it was from the rear parcel shelf. As the rubber strap on it was broken I went back to the Dealer and asked for a replacement which was on back-order and came through today. In the meantime, I replaced the broken one on the shelf and held it in place with a thick pin. However the hatch still rattled when closing.

Upon fitting the new bracket/block, I now have a silent hatch closure with no nasty rattle. They have uprated the part, it is slightly thicker and more L-shaped and it now does the job.

Apparently they are around £7 each and are 'handed'. If you have a rattly hatch, wonder if you could make a warranty claim....?

Another factor which can influence the rear hatch closing / fit are the lower edge corner adjustable buffers.

These buffers have to be set so that they gently "pre-load" the tailgate against the boot opening body work. Not too tight as to hinder boot closing but not too loose as to allow the lock mechanism to rattle.

Yep I've also found one of these rubber brackets in the boot. Suspect it's a common thing due to poor design. However I don't have the 'tinny' sounding tailgate.
