A 2yr pcp car would still be in warranty with a year to go and would have followed Fiat servicing schedules.

Again back to topic(!), did not notice if the OP replied to my query re if his stop/start was working. Noticed on mine today confusingly that the 'run' changes to 'on' when engine is off...!

Just back from a trip to the Italian Dolomite mountains towing a 1000kg caravan.

1000 miles down, 1000 back and 800 up and down the passes and around and about.

Not done the accurate calculations yet (I log every fill, tank full, tank not full, litres and price) but I set Trip B before departure and it reads 26.5 MPG for the whole trip. All done in Sport Mode!

IMHO for this type of trip and load and terrain this is pretty good. By comparison my Croma 2005 16V 150BHP MJet average just on 30mpg for the same trip.

As noted by others (and me) MPG improves with mileage. Also for the at home type of driving 32 to 35 mpg is the norm. This is pretty much in line with any 1.8 litre petrol engine producing 130+ BHP.

The manufacturer's figures (any make) are pure laboratory, best can fiddle numbers that bear no resemblance to real on the road driving. Some VW (proven) go to great lengths to deceive and produce more acceptable figures.

Regarding damomca reply, we're talking of a 1.4 turbo engine and not a 3.2 in a Cherokee. We've got to have like with like.

Relevant though as it's the same gearbox. Final drive may be a little different on the 1.4 turbo, but the point is that 6-9th are all overdrives, so 8th and 9th are very high geared (it appears higher that 6th on the manual).

Sorry for the digression.

Just a quick note on MPG as I drove the Current Future Ex-Mrs Spike's (CFEMS) 1.4 500x on a long trip for the first time yesterday. She only really does short trips, around 6k miles annually, and the trip was reading around 25mpg average.
I did a 350 mile round trip, mostly motorway and a bit stuck in traffic and it returned 46mpg with most of the time at "lane 3, keeping up with everything" speeds.
Happy with that, as I said it was my first time driving it any distance and I was pleasantly surprised with how comfortable and capable it is on a long trip. She was happy because she got to do the school run in my Abarth 500c.

It would appear from reading reviews that any vehicle with the 9 speed box be it FCA or JLR ( is it the same box?) suffers from ' hunting' in the upper gears....

I think we are up to 33mpg on our 1.4 Cross auto.

Not brilliant but improving slightly since it was new 2.5k miles back

Compared to a similar miles 300+ Hp X5 I've also had a go in recently it is still pretty poor - that tank is showing 35-6mpg.

I'm really hoping our little FIAT will indeed get better.

It is about on par with the Panda 4x4 under similar local / mixed driving conditions, but then again I've come to understand that fuel economy is not yet one of FIAT's strengths as a manufacturer. In most other respects I love their products.

Just come back 50 miles, road works, Tyne Tunnel and more single line traffic and single carriageway roads and saw 39.8 mpg, on a journey time of 65 minutes. Not too bad and only 2550 miles on clock

Just to resurrect this topic.
I've a 1.4 Cross Plus manual with 4.5k miles.
Fuel consumption is still pretty marginal and I was wondering how people were finding the consumption as the miles pile on.
Best I've seen on a tank is 42mpg with a worst of 27mpg.
Average is calculated as 34mpg,
Challenge for me is that I used to only drive long trips of 200 miles plus, mostly on the motorway in a diesel. Now I do short trips in traffic in a petrol. Bit of a shock to the system!!

Has anyone driven it in a spirited manner in Sport for an extended period to see what fuel consumption looks like?

We could have a How Low Can You Go on a full tank competiton :D

Here's mine so far. Not always in sport mod, but I do like to get to the limit quickly. [emoji12]

You've managed 17mpg??? lol. Sure you've not got a V8 under the bonnet?

Looking at my graph it actually seems to be getting worse with mileage, not better.

I hardly do a long journey at the minute. Lots of short journeys to work where the engine hardly gets warm, then a mad dash home after a 12 hour shift with 10 minutes or so outside the house sat in the car reflecting on the day.
I also start it up at work to get it warm first, the keyless stuff lets me lock it and leave it running for 10 minutes or so.

If you do a search on Multiair problems it shows they are very sensitive to oil levels. Coming from 2 Alfa's, (which are not renowned for low oil consumption), I have always had my oil changed annually, be it diesel or petrol powered.

6 months or 6000 miles now with TA, MA and TBi engines.

I have recently bought a 500x 1.4 petrol and am so disappointed with the mpg! I traded in my 2015 Juke because of the poor fuel economy and this is the reason I got rid of it and I am worse off now than I was before. I have driven 380 miles in 4 weeks, a mixture of local and motorway driving and it is returning an average of 19.7mpg!!! I have also calculated this manually by filling up and clocking the mileage and the computer seems pretty accurate. Now on my 3rd tank of fuel already : I drive in normal mode and change gear when the display tells me too. I suggest there is either something seriously wrong with the car or Fiat are telling huge lies!

Real mpg returned by Honest John contributors is 35.5 for the 1.4 Multiair. Juke 1.6 is 39.7, so I would expect the Fiat to be worse. If you bought the Juke new and part exchanged after 2 years, I would think that depreciation is a far greater cost than poor fuel economy.

If it helps all I can say is that experience of the 1.4 MultiAir is varied. (Note I record MPG by brim to brim fills and also note what the trip records)

Get it on long runs and it shows good values.
Get it on short runs and you may be scratching you head.

For me I rate overall consumption over the lifetime of the vehicle. We all know that the legal/industry current "so called accurate driving cycle" measurements figures are *WAY WAY OFF* the mark.

I have accurate MPG figures (all recorded in log books with gallons/litres/prices/fuel type) for all the cars I have owned going back to late 1970's. There is no way I can accurately correlate my figures to what the manufacturers claim.

What I focus on is "how is it doing for me". In all cases OK enough not to want to ditch/sell the vehicles as hopeless fuel guzzlers.

For me I want to drive slow, drive sporty fast, tow a caravan AND HAVE FUN! Beyond that MPG is of interest but not a prime factor.

When you buy any car you are buying a package and you can be sure that the marketing etc. of that package will have been pushed to the legal limit of attraction.

Sorry TrevC, too many assumptions here. Juke was 1.2, average mpg 32 in mine. Didn't buy it new and didn't part ex it. Cost me £1,000 to get a car a year newer than Juke so thought it could be worth it.

Ah, ok. I think the common factor is the turbo engine in both cars (I think the Juke 1.2 has a turbo). The official test cycle causes the engine to operate without the turbo doing much, so real life driving won't achieve the official figures. My 500 Twinair has an official average of 68mpg, but in nearly 6 years I seldom get more than 50. I'm changing it for a 500X Multiair on Monday, but I'm not expecting anywhere near the official figure, except on a gentle long run.
I suspect the low figures you have got with the Juke and 500X are down to the types of journey you do.

I am achieving almost 42 MPG on my 1.4 DCT, the car has only 3500 on the clock and I am hoping that come the warmer weather and a few more miles on the clock this may improve, most of my driving is local but with a long distance drive at more or less constant speed every so often. I don't push the car but do get up to the speed limit ASAP. From my experience most cars give there best MPG's in warmer weather.
