I've noticed that I'm a better driver (more cautious, etc) when I'm driving and someone is watching me. I also noticed that I have the same feeling when I'm driving a car with a dashcam. So I decided to get one for my 500X, I'll be a better driver and I will also capture funny moments and ridicule people by uploading the videos on youtube 
After careful consideration, I went for the Street Guardian (model SG9665GC) which I got from amazon.co.uk. It's one of the more expensive units but it was one of the few that fit my requirements.
My mechanic got it installed and the result looks as if the dashcam was always there, like it came with the car. The power cable goes into the hole that is used for the rear view mirror, then continues inside the roof lining, down to the fusebox behind the console, thus there is nothing visible. I'm very happy with the result.
Attached are two images, one image shows how the dashcam is setup underneath the plastic cover that holds the electronics behind the mirror, the other shows an example output of the dashcam. On the example, you can see how wide is the recording/viewing angle, since it captures all 3 lanes.
