Hi everybody

I have a 500x 1.4 multiair Manual Lounge bought on Oct 2015 with the keyless system. Till today I have made 5000 wonderful kilometers with my car but yesterday night I had a very bad experience of engine stall for about 10 minutes that I am quite scared of. For your info, I have the Start & Stop system always disabled, as I don't want to stress the battery and the starter all the time. Also Fiat dealer has updated the operating system of my car according to Fiat updates last month.

Starting from a traffic light last night, I released the clutch rather ubruptly (obviously) and the engine went-off. This is of coarse my fault but is normal and has happened a few other times in the past but pressing the start button again (with the clutch pedal pushed all the way down and the brake pedal pressed simultaneously) the engine always started again.

What is not normal, is that yesterday the engine didn't want to restart. Specifically, the starter didn't work although everything else seemed OK. After I tried several times pressing the button, pedals etc as described the restarting procedure above, I went out of the car, locked it and unlocked it, but nothing again.

Then I opened the engine hood and disconnected the battery pole in order to reboot the computer of the car. Getting back in to the car and pressing the start button, the starter worked, the engine started for a few seconds and then went out again because of the Start & Stop system, as shown on the central panel. Then again could not restart the engine, although I disabled again the Start & Stop from the special button.

Then I disconnected again the battery pole, disabled the Start & Stop system and then tried to restart the engine but the same happened, namely the starter operated, the engine started for a few seconds and then went out and could not restart it again (even the starter didn't work afterwords).

Very much bothered I took the car to the side of the road (you can imagine what has happened behind me...) and called Fiat roadside assistance, in order to send somebody to help me and take the car to the dealer service. While talking on the phone with the lady in Fiat assistance, I kept trying restarting the car by pressing the start button, pedals etc, when suddenly everything got back to normal??!! and the car restarted.

Please, does anybody of you had some kind of similar experience with your cars?? Computer stalls although normal in our laptops to happen from time to time, are very much annoying and scaring to the car. I am really very much bothered. My God could this stall happen again??? Worstly could this happen while I am driving to the motorway??

Please your experiences.

Why do you disable the start stop system! The car is designed to use it and it will not stress the car! The start stop is clever and it only cuts in when the battery has enough charge to start the engine. If you keep stalling the car I would suggest you are confusing the system especially if you start to disconnect the battery.

The option of disabling start & stop is offered officially by Fiat through a special button. So the problem here is not whether I have start & stop on or off. We all have this option.

The problem is why did this engine stall happened. I can agree that disconnecting the battery pole didn't offered much, at least directly since the car didn't recovered immediately. However, what other option I had?? Wait and wait and wait?? I am really not sure that without disconnecting the battery, the car would recover.
